I've got several BMI Grey Teflon 30's that I am about to upgrade with Magpul Anti-Tilt Followers and Black Magpuls. It says on the Magpul followers that they are made with 3% teflon for self lubrication, so is it necessary to lube the followers, the springs, and the interior walls of each mag.? I know some believe you should not lubricate a magazines' interior as well as it's internal parts, but just the same, some believe you should. If lubrication is the way to go then what should be used on these mags. as well as just plain (non-teflon) mags.? So.... 1) LUBE or NOT 2) If you LUBE what do you use? (CLP...REM Oil...etc.)

Lubrication is not necessary. However, I think it is a good idea to apply some sort of corrosion inhibitor on the springs. BF CLP should work fine, but there may be even better products if you have them around. I once bought an old 20-rnder and the spring was not only completely encrusted in rust, but there were rust flakes and marks all over the inside of the body; it was a real mess. So, yes, they DO rust. The mag body (Teflon coated, anodized aluminum) will never corrode, so don't worry about that. |

| The only part of an alluminum AR-15 magazine that gets any oil is the steel spring. CLP is good because you already have it in your hand when you are cleaning your rifle. WD-40 is one of the best corrosion inhibitors on the market and was specifically developed to repell moisture. WD-40 means water displacement formula #40. |
I'll bet that sat in someone's damp basement for 20 or so years or was stored after being soaked in water. They CAN rust but usually don't. As far as oiling mags goes I would say there much more important things to worry about. |
