I recently bought my first AR. the guy who sold it to me included about 50 rds of winchester .223. I cannot tell what grain it Is and I don't have a scal

it appears (to me) to be a hpbt, and it is only about .010" shorter than a green tip

My first thought was  wwb 45gr varmint but the length makes me think otherwise.

Any input Is appreciated.

Thanks.

Hard to tell from info given.  Pull the bullet and weigh it.  Find a friend or even a gunsmith/shop with a hammer style puller and a set of scales.  Someone would gladly help you.

Thanks for the link. Judging from the diagrams on that site I'm thinking its a match bullet. None of the other hollow point type bullets seem to have boat tails.
I stuck a sewing pin into the hp cavity and it seems wider and more shallow than the hole in the 95% copper one you linked to.

I am going to the range on saturday to finish dialing in at 300. Assuming i get my zero early enough, I will be trying some groups with these mystery rounds to see how the poi compares to M855. I guess that wont tell me what weight they are, but at least I'll know where they hit .

Thanks .
