Found a guy selling 1000 rounds for $460.

When I asked him what brand it was he replied...

" Military 5.56 52g surplus. All brass rounds FMJ with a 98% guarentee. 98 out of 100 rounds fire with no problems. Same warrenty as for the Military"

This my first AR so I don't have a lot of knowledge about the different ammo for it. Would this be a good buy?

Sounds pretty iffy to me. Mil Spec ammo is mil spec 'cause it goes bang every time. Would any soldier accept ammo that does not fire

every time the trigger is pulled? Plus, price seems way too low in current market. Be careful these are not reloads. If it is reloaded ammo,

walk away. I reload and will not let anyone shoot my reloads just in case something went wrong. Also, if it's reloaded and the guy selling does not

have manufacturer's license, someone gonna have lots of trouble.

2% failure rate sounds awfully high for mil spec.

Plus there's no such thing as 52gr surplus as far as I know.

I thought that most common mil spec was either 55gr or 62gr...   What's this 52gr stuff?  Doesn't sound military to me.

He says he has 15k rounds for sale. That would be an a lot of reloading wouldn't it?

Maybe I will pass on this.  : /

Yeah, I've never heard of any mil 52 gr load.

And the hell with a "98% should fire" statement.

If he'll sell it to you for $100 / 1000 it might be worth it to pull the bullets and have the brass.

Could also be someone who doesn't know what he has.

I say ask him to send you some pics of it. Try and determine what exactly it is first. Then consider if you want to buy it or not.

Hate to pass up a decent deal, because some guy doesn't know what he has.

Hate to buy a deal and get a load of poop as well.

No. The seller is either dishonest or ignorant. Either of these traits would cause me to pass on the deal.

Probably a good word of caution.  During this latest panic there are too many sharks trying to dump off previously unsaleable garbage while they can.
