Hi all I was going to buy a bulk box of xm193 from PSA. I was reading the ammo reviews and saw a post from troy that states that bluk ammo in bags not in 20 round boxes is for range use and should not be used for SD/HD. He said that it will be labeled xm193pd but PSA does not have it labeled like that on its site. Do you assume all bulk boxes are class 3 rounds and should only be used for range use. I have black rifle fever and going a little crazy with all the info out there. Thanks

I'd send a message/call to PSA.

It doesnt matter the packaging, M193 is M193

M193 is not really good HD/SD ammo.
But, If you do want to stockpile it and use it for SD/HD, then no, the packaging doesnt matter

I would read the Ammo FAQ at the top of the page for suggestions and insight on SD ammo

Thanks I also want to stock pile ammo for when the shtf I have looked at the SD post and it was very good but I don't have much room so I really can't have 5 different piles of ammo at my home. So I have been looking for something that is a multi duty round. But it looks like I will need a few different rounds. Thanks again

Federal claims packaging does not matter, but the Ammo Review suggests otherwise when the ammo is packed loose.

I know this is the best site I have found for the AR that's why I joined it. The FAQ is great but for someone new it's very confusing. So much info it makes your head spin. Thanks for the help

Many people here, myself included, stock xm193 for range/shtf use.  Keep in mind, there is a difference between SD/HD and SHTF.  For self defense/ home defense, i have some hornady 75gr tap and some T2 TAP.

XM193, is good stuff to use and keep.....just not for home defense.  When a large volume of rounds are needed down range, thats where the XM193 applies.

XM193PD specifically is "grade 3" quality.  Meaning it may have a bunch of defects....still good for range use but that's all.  Read this thread by Zhukov, he explains all you need to know about XM193PD right here

Any XM193 BK, BP, LC should be gtg

Please consider that this is new, current production civilian ammunition, not mil surp.  While I greatly value the information given in the various posts and FAQs, I also value what the manufacture has to say about their ammunition.

Look here for Federal's webpage on XM193.

A very nice web page to be sure.
Also potentially misleading to someone who has not read other things Federal has said about XM ammo.

Do you have some links for the other Federal information you mention?  Most of the previous info I've found here was as old as 2007, which wouldn't be relevant to new production.

M193 is not really good HD/SD ammo.

Take a look at this dude's leg (warning:  graphic).  Not just at the muscles and skin, but at the x-ray of the femur.  And one of the people who worked on him said that the bullet did NOT touch the bone.

M193 may not be the lastest kool-aid of the month, but that doesn't mean that it can't be effective.   And hey, having 1k rounds of it stashed away is better than having 30 rounds of something fancy and expensive.

(Of course, the ideal would be to have tons of M193 *and* a bunch of the premium stuff, but we can't all afford that.)

Sorry – no links.
Mostly email replies from Federal to members of various boards.

also––glens army navy surplus has xm193 on sale at the moment––cheaper than psa.

I just order 500 for 140 shipped to my door. figuring out to 28 cents a pop.
