Anyone know anything about this stuff? I am guessing these are seconds?
http://www.wideners.com/itemdetail.cfm?item_id=100000359&dir=18|830|845 reliable, clean, and accurate? Or should I just stick to the IMI? Life is too short to be shooting crappy ammo... |
| With all the different number designators perhaps a call to Federal would be a good idea. Lots of questions on xm855 being sold now. I can't seem to get away to test this ammo. Shot some in my back yard through a chronograph at about 25yds. All the various 855 ammo that I've shot is about the same in velocity but cant tell about terminal performance or longer range. Anybody know someone at Federal or ATK? |

All of the various SKU's of Lake City 5.56 XM855 are the same ammo, the only difference is SKU number and/or packaging. Federal did some price increases recently, so they discontinued XM855LCAC1 and replaced it with XM855LC1AC1 so they would not have to honer contract pricing for XM855LCAC1 at the lower prices and rather offer a "new" product at a slightly higher price. The ammo is the exact same, packaging is exact same, "except" for the removal of the "Not for Duty Use" label from the can. That was replaced with a SMQ lot number, which implies a commercial contract load, and also is not certified for duty use. To the best of my knowledge any Lake City ammo with a lot number that starts with SMQ is a commercial classified lot and has not been performance tested. Unless you are in the US military or the military of a country that buys ammo from Lake City you will not be getting any "certified for duty use" ammo made by Lake City. Still you are getting great ammo overall, we sold a large quantity of XM855LCAC1 and never a single performance related complaint

I bought 2 and all 840 rounds were fine, seemed to be of acceptable power using the shoulder chrono. I didnt bother to run it through the digital one. I didnt notice any dented cases, have any blown or loose primers.
As for accuracy, no problems hitting the 1/3 IPSC steel target out at 300yds. Thats the furthest out I shot it. Bought a 3rd can of it from Palmetto when they dropped the price, but I stashed it. I mean for a stash, you cant really beat the packaging. |
