I have found that 22lr tracers (Piney mountain brand is what I tried) are a ton of fun suppressed at night.  They stay subsonic, light quick and dont burn for that long so there isnt that much of a risk of fire.  I am having a hard time find them for sale, especially in bulk.  I am wondering if anyone has a good source for them or another brand that they recommend, i would like to pick up 500-1000.  As always, the cheaper the better

Thanks

What?!?! $160.00 + $20 shipping for 500 rounds of 22LR? That's $0.36/round. Not exactly cheap, considering that it is nearly 10x the price of standard 22LR bulk pack. I mean, sure it may be fun, but if you're looking for "cheap" 22LR tracer ammo, than chances are you're financially conscious and at that rate I could buy 500+ rounds of quality 5.56 ammo.

Hey, if you have $180 to drop on a brick of 22LR tracers, go for it and don't let my stingy ass ruin your fun, but if it were me, I would be putting the money into something more practical.

I thought they sounded fun too until I saw the price. Cabelas has them on sale now and it is more than the guy above. Might as well be shooting 856

You don't have to be an asshat. 22 tracers are expensive!

Asshat?... Expensive? I guess so. Never really looked into 22LR tracers before. That just seems crazy to me, but I guess if you're buying tracers, you're probably just doing it for the fun factor, and if I'm shooting at night, I'd much rather be shooting 22LR tracers than 5.56 tracers (less potential to kill things unintentionally, wake things up, attract the attention of certain individuals that might be attracted en-mass to the sound of gunshots in the night...). Alright, I get it. I just couldn't stomach dropping $180 on 22LR, for any less than 5000 rounds, or if it was an investment in a large but slightly lesser quantity of Stingers, Velocitors, match rounds, silent rounds and many of the other special 22LR rounds out there now. But then again... I'm stingy.

Keep this on topic.  The topic is where they might be available, not whether they're worth the price being charged.

I get them from cheaperthandirt and they're not cheap there either but it made a big difference in how fast my son learned to shoot with iron sights since he could watch the round fly. I am guilty of occasionally loading a stick mag full of them in the GSG and dumping them for grins.

I apologize if I was steering the convo in a different direction. Not intentional. I just saw that the original post stated, "the cheaper the better", and not being particularly familiar with the price-point of 22LR tracers, I was taken back by the high cost of the ones in the link. I guess I thought it was relevant, but maybe I was wrong. Peace.

Ah, the age ol' question:

At what price, fun?

Thanks for the link––I'll use it. I've been buying them from Cheaper Than Dirt & would prefer another source & color.

link appears to be dead, but I believe it ended up pointing to - http://www.redrimfire.com/Tracers.html, which is the cheapest source I had found before posting this.  I have ordered some, will update when they get in.

also, yes, they are expensive, but being able to sit around and shoot them any time of the night without any issue with sound complaints is awesome

I bought a few boxes from Cabelas too.  I think they were like $20/50

They are expensive but they are really fun.

Beware though, the base of the bullet (where the tracer compound hole is located) can tear off and become stuck in the bore.

they only problem I have ever had was the crimp holding the bullet in is weak

if it fails to fire (it is rimfire after all) then you have a very good chance of the bullet staying in the bore when you extract the unfired round  this has happened in several guns to me.  i bring a cleaning rod and it is acceptable to me, but I dont use my match barrel anymore

I got them in, fast shipping, and it was what I ordered.  they are also in individual 50rnd boxes which does make them easier to handle.  the bulk ones i got from cabelas in the past were just in one bag

is the product inexpensive?  nope.  is the link above the cheapest place I know to get them?  yep.

ill have fun running them through my suppressor at night

thanks everyone
