| Did a quick search and didnt find anything....does anyone have any info on ATI 5.56 ammo? Decent ammo? Any known issues? Specifically, their 62 grain SS109 load. |
| I bought one box of 30 to try out in my 1/7CL 16" M4. It is very powerful; as it had more recoil than .223 & cycled really well. Good brass cases for reloading. The accuracy was terrible - maybe 4-6" 100 yard groups. It may group better in someone elses rifle. I'm glad that one box is all I bought. |

I asked the same question a couple months back.
Some had good luck but a number had not only accuracy problems but various ejection and feed problems. There were no consistent means to determine what and why. One guy stated he had two ARs in which one ran it fine and the other jammed every other round. I had someone willing to sell me a case at a bargain and once I heard the reports i declined Get the IMI at Wideners, excellent ammo and right now a bargain. Wulfmann |

Reviews here seem to be mixed. Some have terrible accuracy and other claims great accuracy. Guess it depends on your rifle. More likely, it depends upon the veracity of those claims of "great accuracy" with the ATI load. In this thread from October 2009, InfiniteGrim boasted that while everyone had been telling him that 5.56mm NATO-spec loads were not capable of sub-MOA accuracy, he was “glad to prove them wrong” with his accuracy report of the ATI 62 grain load. He boasted that he achieved sub-MOA accuracy with the ATI 62 grain load. His boast was based on a cherry-picked 4-shot group that he CLAIMED THAT HE FIRED FROM A DISTANCE OF 100 YARDS. Then, in December 2010, more than a year after his original post on the ATI 62 grain load, InfiniteGrim stated in this thread that he had actually fired that cherry-picked 4-shot group FROM A DISTANCE OF ONLY 50 YARDS. Here's my short review of the ATI 62 grain load. American Tactical 5.56 x 45mm 62 grain
This M855 “clone” is charged with ball powder, has crimped and sealed primers, asphalt sealant at the case-mouth and utilizes a 62 grain SS109-type projectile. This bullet is a full-metal jacket, boat-tailed, cannelured projectile with a steel penetrator insert.
The muzzle velocity of this load was 3077 fps with a standard deviation of 21 fps. America Tactical claims that this ammunition “is lot tested to assure less than one minute of angle” accuracy at 100 meters.
A 10-shot group of this load fired from an AR-15 with a free-floated, 20” Colt HBAR had an extreme spread of 4.49” and a mean radius of 1.33”.

What kind of person makes shit up for an ammo review? Wait a minute. I just read that thread and saw my mistake. I believe I shot the ATI group around october 2009. When I posted about it being at 50 yards not 100 I was confusing the targets I had posted in that thread and my optics I used. I completly forgot about the scope I had I used a cheap and shitty barska 3-9x42mm scope that broke shortly ( the front lens just fell out) after that review and I was stuck with irons for over a year and because of that I was limited to 50 yards which is why I thought it was at 50 yards. The 4 shot group is NOT "cherry picked". I had a limited supply of ammo so I only brought 10 rds to test and saved the rest to stash The first 5 shot group went fine, but when shooting the so called "cherry picked" group the damn ammo jammed and ruined the roud so I was limited toa 4 shot group. Group in question...
Round that jammed next to new ammo
Made the mistake of having the round ina baggy next to other ammo and it was fired.
scope used the the lens eventually popped out of. As I said dont buy barsak, they seem very good for the money, but 6 months laer the lens might pop out.
Believe what you will but after 16 months I got the distance confused. I'm not the only one who has shot a sub 1" group at a 100 yards with this stuff, but it wasnt a 5 shot group. The ATI ammo when used in my 16" carbine runs considerably well. I think I had 1-2 FTFs in 120 rounds, but in my 18" SPR it has a FTF every 1-2 rounds. I "tried" to shoota group with it in my SPR but it jammed 2 times in 5 rounds. I did not get the SPR until summer 2010, the 16" was all I had when I reviewed it. After firing the one that jammed I tried to contact ATI, but for some reason they basically ignore any comments about their ammo. I think I made a post in their industry forum ad they just ignored it LINk
