Anyone tried the Barnes M/LE RRLP Bullets yet?  Im kind of curious what kind of penetration you MIGHT get from these bullets.

Same bullet as the TSX.

Not the same as a TSX.  This is a frangible bullet that will pretty much break apart on impact.  Little to no penetration.

My bad - thanks for pointing that out. I didn't read as far as the "RRLP" the OP stated.

Frangible bullets are meant to disintegrate on HARD targets such as steel. In soft tissue, they will behave like a FMJ and overpenetrate.

I've loaded and tested these bullets a little bit.

They work good for shooting gongs at close range.  I've fired on my gongs as close as 7 yards.

As far as penetration?  They won't pass through a gallon jug of water anywhere near intact.  I put a phone book behind a jug to see if the round would penetrate.  But the bullet pretty much vaporized and I didn't even find any jacket frags.  The phone book had no penetration at all.

Also:  I think the bullet is the same as the Barnes MPG (multi purpose green).  I've loaded and shot both flavors and I can't tell the difference.

You are probably right on that point of correction, though RRLP stands for Reduced Ricochet, Limited Penetration.  I have not seen where anybody has put this to the test though.  I guess someone has.

Thanks, thats what I was looking for.  What did the jug of water look like?  I would like to see what these do to denim covered gel.  Not sure if they are really good for using as a defense round.

It's been a while, but I think the exit side of the jug just looked jagged and sloppy from some of the broken up particles just reaching the back of the jug.

This would not be a good defensive round at all.  I'm sure it would be lethal, but far from optimal.
