I recently bought some USGI MK 262 Mod 1 by Black hills in GI 20 Rd boxs. These were not seconds but GI. I was now told that I should not shoot it in my Rem 700 Bull BBL as the twist is wrong and there would be no accuracy as the round was intended. I have a M-4 with 14 !/2 BBL 1/7 with the Phantom flash hider making in 16 1/4. Will shooting this round in the short 14" BBl be a waste Should I trade it out or sell it????

Did you hear this at your local gun shop or gun show? Whomever told you that is full of $hit. You should be fine. The MK262 does VERY well in a 1/7 twist. However, I don't know enough about the Rem 700's to speak on what the chamber is rated for. .223 or 5.56mm, or both? Someone will chime in with the correct info I'm sure. Maj |

As stated, the M4 will handle it no problem.
Before shooting MK 262 in the 700, be sure it is chambered for 5.56 not just .223. The MK 262 uses NATO 5.56 not SAMMI .223 pressure loads. If the 700's chamber is GTG, 1/9 twist rate may or may not stablize the round. 1/9 twist with 77 grain is on the max fringe. I have made MK262 work with that twist in long (24") barrels, chambered for it. The extra barrel length gives the bullet more spin time in the rifling before it exits out the muzzle. That being said, MK262 is very accurate and should produce a good target print. |

My bets are that Rem barrel is gonna either be a 1/12 or 1/14....but either way the chamber is not gonna be 5.56 rated....Shoot it outta yer M4 with the 14.5" barrel....thats what it was designed for in the first place!! Not fully correct. My 700P LTR has a 1/9 twist and the LE Rep for NC has advised that it can take a steady diet of 5.56mm NATO ammo and not void the factory warranty. My 700 loves the 77gr Black Hills 5.56mm load. To date from the box I have never shot the first round of .223 marked ammo thru the weapon. |

In my opinion....shooting it in your Remingon 700 would be a waste. Your rifle has 1/12 barrel and prob a .223 chamber. It may shoot just fine but I would not, you are not using the ammo to its full worth. That ammo for the price you paid would be much better off using it in your AR. If it was me I would save it for SHTF or defense use. I would NOT use it in my AR just to go plink at the range.
Most remington 700s are 1/12 twist and a few are 1/9. One is even 1/9.25. Almost all of them are chambered in .223. |
