Shot a little over 500 rounds of the .223 62gr stuff in the once fired cases. No problems, and as accurate as xm-193 out of my colt 6920. I would buy again if the price was right.

How does the once fired brass look like on average?

It looks very clean an shiney. I assume whoever preps the brass must clean it up nicely before the rounds are loaded. It looks as good as any commercial .223 brass, and much better than federal xm-193.

I don't know about it being sold in black plastic at gun shows, but mine came in carboard boxes loose. No plastic bags, however I had two orders of five hundred. Shot 500, and still have 500 left for later.

If you buy the 50 or 20 round boxes they are bright blaze orange boxes. If you buy them in bulk (500 rounds) they come either in surplus army ammo cans or generic cardboard boxes. They can be found in some stores. And I noticed Cheaper than Dirt carries some of there ammo now(for alot more $ than you will pay at a gun show). They are a pretty new company that broke off of HSM ammo "The Hunting Shack" out of Montana maybe 3 years ago. HSM decided they wanted to get out of the gun show ammo business, So one of their employess, Darren Newsom, broke off and started his own ammo company based out of the same area of Montana and took over the gun show ammo business. They go to alot of gun shows in Vegas, Utah, and Arizona. You can always spot there table by the bright orange boxes (which is the same way HSM had colored there boxes).
I love there ammo and have shot BVAC and HSM ammo pretty much exclusivley since 2004. Mainly becuase it was so much cheaper than any store bought ammo any where around the general southern Nevada, southern Utah area. I go to vegas and st. george gun shows pretty much only to buy there ammo. I would compare it quality wise to Winchester USA white box ammo: Budget but good. I have put about 1,500 rounds of BVAC ammo thru my AR without a single failure to fire, etc. It runs good with zero issues. Just a year ago they were about the cheapest ammo around ($8 for 50 rds. of 9mm 115 gr. FMJ, $11 for 50 rds. of .45 ACP 230 gr. FMJ, $14 for 50 rds. of .223 55gr FMJ, $12 for 20 rds. of .308 168 gr. A-Max, etc.). But like everyone else and the ugly monster known as supply and demand they have consistenly gone up in price at every gun show I have gone to over the last year, which is about 1 every 2 1/2 months. The last show back in June there .233 ammo had risen to about $21 for a box of 50. I did buy a bulk box of 500 rounds of 62 gr. FMJ from them for $200 flat. But I am sure by the next show in about 3 weeks it will have risen again. Its good ammo though, just a shame that prices have caught up with everyone else. I used to buy at least 10-15 boxes of ammo per gun show, but I find myself having to slow down.

If you want more info on them, there web site is: www.bvac-ammo.com, and their full name is Bitter-Root Valley Ammunition Company.

P.S. if you dont reload, you can take your brass back to them at gun shows and they will buy if from you for $1 a box.

Usually the stuff they have in the black plastic cans is their new brass.  They do both new and remanufactured and are a master distributor for ATK, the owner of Federal who runs Lake City.  So even a lot of their new .223 loads come in LC brass.   Most of their sporting rifle loads are also new, the nice pretty boxes.  If you look at the case, an N after the load (45A 1N, versus 45A 1, something like that anyway) the N means new.

What kind of groups are you guys getting with the 62 grain stuff??

With the .223 62gr ammo out of my colt 6920, I get about 1.5" at 50 yards. I haven't done any formal grouping, just enough to get a good zero.

Real nice, at least the box of 62 gr. FMJ .223 I picked up at Surplus Ammo today does. It's LC brass- from their website, looks like once-fired, a FEW of the cases have TINY dings on the shoulders, but I don't think that would affect performance. Looks like very good quality for once-fired ammo; haven't fired it yet, though.

Made just south of me. I've met Darren and his crew. He got into ammo at about the exact perfect time.

I've been shooting his stuff instead of HSM (actually I was shooting his stuff when he was at hunting shack, and it was good but dirty).
BVAC shoots a bit cleaner than the hunting shack stuff ever did, and I think BVAC's load quality is a bit better round to round.

BVAC 308 150 Gr. purchased 9/09 was very bad news––bought 500 rounds from Surplusammo.com (a very reliable and competitive supplier––love 'em) and first shot today in two DPMS 16" .308s, both new with only about 80 rounds of British surplus ammo through them, which ran flawlessly.

In less than 80 BVAC rounds, I had two major failures––blown/ejected primers, severely expanded head with brass flowing back to a distinct ring, one round blew bottom out of C products magazine although no permanent damage.  Both thoroughly jammed the weapons.  YES, I kept shooting after the first one––figured it couldn't be THAT bad, just a blown primer which is about the worst problem I've had in tens of thousands of rounds downrange.  Unfortunately I could not locate a lot number or other specific identifier, and my comments are limited to the results of this 308 round only.  These are reloads by BVAC, and use mixed military, NATO compliant brass––the two failures were FC (Federal) and PMJ (a Korean round that the US military purchased and uses at least for training if not combat purposes––supposed to be good stuff).

That said, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT ANYONE USING BVAC .308 150 Gr. AMMO OF RECENT PURCHASE CONTACT BVAC FOR GUIDANCE BEFORE USING.  My next step after this "just back from the range" post is to contact both Surplus Ammo and BVAC.

UPDATE:  I returned the unused ammo to BVAC and they promptly replaced the order.  FIred a few magazines last weekend with zero problems and fine accuracy.  Staff at Surplusammo.com and BVAC were very helpful and professional, so I'm chalking this up to a glitch and would happily buy more of this stuff...while we can...before the lefty Dems turn their attention to our last great freedom....
