There are numerous weights available(45-70 gr). In a 20" 1/7, what would be the max effective(reliable and significant expansion) range on a soft target?
I'm also aware that Dr Roberts recommends the 55gr load- is there no benefit to the 62 and 70? What about barrier penetration? Thanks for the info! |

Compiled information regarding Barnes .223 TSX expansion, velocity and range:
(From: (1) an email from Barnes re: min expansion velocity, (2) Barnes load data provided via email and (3) ballistics calculations from JBM Ballistics, http://www.jbmballistics.com/~jbm/cgi-bin/jbmtraj_simp-5.0.cgi ) (ballistic calculations for 40 deg F, altitude 1000 feet, pressure 29.92 in Hg ) TSX Weight - Min. Impact Vel. for Expansion - BC - Max Load of TAC - Vel from a 24" Barrel - Velocity@Range 45gr - 1900fps - .188 - 28.0gr - 3549 fps - 1906 fps @ 365 yds 53gr - 1900fps - .204 - 26.0gr - 3307 fps - 1906 fps @ 320 yds 62gr - 1900fps - .287 - 24.5gr - 3055 fps - 1906 fps @ 380 yds 70gr - 1800fps - .304 - 23.5gr - 2853 fps - 1802 fps @ 395 yds I don't have any specific info regarding the 55gr TSX. |
