I have a bunch of 223 I am going to get rid of and most of it is loose in SAW cans without counting each round (I know there is more than 1K in each can) is there a simple way to get an idea of how much I have like weighing it or similar that is fairly accurate? Or do I just put the kids to work and make them count each round

This is about half full of 62g Privi.

This is about 3/4 or more full of 50g HP from the WalMart 200 round value packs.

Pay the kids to count them.

Ammo is pretty valuable right now. A precise count is the way to go.

weight.

average _ g per bullet.

then put on the can, tare, put all the bullets in get weight, divide by average weight, get # of bullets.

not precise but im sure it will get you +/- 1 bullet.

I've done this to count some of my loose ammo with my wife's digital kitchen scale. How many rounds you can count depends on how much the scale can handle at one time. You'd be surprised how accurate that is.

should be pretty accurate.  i would suggest that you weigh like ten or twenty rounds all together then divide that value by however many rounds you weighed to get the average weight per rd.  that way you get a large enough sampling to account for weight variations between rounds.

if you have to count by hand, i find it easier to count by fives than one by one.

Thanks for the info but my scales were broken so I did it the hard way there were ~1600 in the bottom pic and ~1200 in the top one.

Your ammo sold before anyone even cared how many you really had. Guess demand is that great.
