| I purchased a new DPMS LR 308 on Saturday. I want to pick up some bulk ammo, but not sure which has the best combination of low cost & reliability. |
| At this point, most of the stuff you can find as far as surplus will do you fine. The problem is finding it, and not paying out the nose for it. There is a good bit of british radway green that is running around, that stuff has always shot very well for me. I'm kind of a fan of SA, but at this point, its hard to find it under .50 a round. |

There is some corrosive S&B for a little under 50c a round. However shipping always pushes this above 50c. You can get this right now through samcoglobal.com. Just throw some ammonia down the tube shortly after firing and you'll be GTG. British Radway is nice. Can be had for appx. 53c per round shipped through Southern Ohio. I'm still waiting on 3 more crates currently. I'm assuming they are backlogged all to hell and back. South African is ok too. Can be had for appx. 51c per round through surplusammo.com (shipping not included). Wideners has Prvi 147gr for 120/200, but it sells out fast (less than 24 hours when they had it 2 weeks ago). They will have it again in April, I last heard. Keep in mind that this is really the best deal since it is reloadable and only about 5-10c more per round There is also some DAG floating around in 500 rnd quantities, usually with ammo cans included. 269-280 per 500 round can is about the norm. This all came out of the same lot and does have corrosion. I bought a can of this and put 60 rounds through my M1A this weekend. Works great. Is a little more accurate than Radway. Sportsman's Guide and Palmetto State Armory both have it for around the same price. You can also get Lake City M80 ball (bulk) at Palmetto for $341/500rnd. 68c per round but LC is some of the best. Good luck finding Q3130. Palmetto had it for 140/200 but that sold out and I don't think they will be getting more soon. |

I bouhgt an AP4 a month ago, and bought ammo from Palmetto state armory (Win Q3130), Widener's (Prvi 175 gr and 168 gr - they had 168 gr in last week for almost 24 hours - when i found it (just happened to go looking at the right time), they listed about 600-20round boxes...I bought 50 of them, it went down quickly thereafter. I posted that it was available, but never saw any response to it.
the Prvi 175 gr is about the same price, if not exactly the same price. good clean reloadable ammo for 70 cents a round. |

I purchased a new DPMS LR 308 on Saturday. Read the manual. Note ammo precautions in the warranty section. My LR308 manual says if I shoot SA I void the warranty. Heck, if I shoot new PMP (South African commerical) ammo, I void the warranty. Any steel case ammo (Wolf, Barnaul, etc.) voids the warranty. Your manual may be different, but if you download the manual from DPMS, the warnings are also there. Just providing the info, lots of DPMS owners are shooting SA. There is S&B commercial ammo at around $13/20. It is not corrosive, and shoots little groups from my LR308. I only tried 5 rounds at 50 yds, but the group could be covered by a nickel. Not bad for 52 yr old eyes and iron sights. I expect to try some Prvi Partizan. Tends to be the price of S&B commercial, about .65/each, and it has a good reputation. I have some Radway Green surplus which I will try and it is not specifically mentioned as voiding the warranty. My RG is old, like 68 date codes; I am not sure if the RG out there today is the same. The Privi is marketed as .308, but I wonder if if is closer to NATO pressure and would be safe for 7.62 x 51 chambering?
I see some of you are shooting AR-10's that seem to be chambered for .308. I have several 7.62 x 51 rifles (FAL & CETME, Enfield 2A's) that I don't think are safe for .308 pressure & brass sizes. I have some of the surplus that is out there but want new purchases to be reloadable, Boxer primed stuff. The Privi looks attractive but I am concerned about the .308 vs NATO issue. I should have bought the Winchester Q3130 when it was around, couldn't get over the price at the time. I have some Lithuanian but should have bought much, much more. I see Federal XM-80 is around, have heard the brass is not the best for reloading. I have a decent stock now, just not enough if TSHTF. At the end of the day I may just wait for more Q3130 or similar and for prices to settle back down.... |

Lee DPMS is weird. The LR308 read 308 chamber. Which means shooting 7.62 nato is not recommended. However many other LRT-308C/T and other models read 7.62. Whatever is stamped on your barrel, that's what it supports. |

Samco has 3 different 7.62 loads for sale 1 is corrosive and the other 2 are now corrosive.
But, they are Berdan primer Samco |
