Just picked up 1,200 rounds of 100 round Value Packs at Walmart.  55 grain FMJ.  What exactly is this stuff?  I assume it's lower velocity than M193?

Thanks,

Right lower velocity then  M193.  If you zero to it, it will be fine.  I'm not a big fan of it overall, but it always fires.  I would take it over the cheap remington.

I bought 1,000 rounds of Prvi M193 last week.  I guess that'll be my SHTF go to ammo.  I guess the Federal bulk is good for everything else.

It shoots well.  Reasonably accurate, and reliable.   I dont buy it anymore because the F C brass sucks for reloading.  If Im buying from Wal-Mart, I go for the Remmington because the brass is superior.

Why is that?  I haven't started reloading but I am starting to save brass.

I think the Fed .223 shoots well.  It pretty good stuff for buying local around me where the gun shops are too expensive, and it allows me to keep my xm193 and 855 for a rainy day.  I'd buy more if it were a little cheaper but that isn't very likely.

I bought a 200 rd federal value pack also.
I shot several of the boxes in it and brought the brass home, I started looking at the brass and found  lake city empty brass in the group. I opened another one of the white boxes in the value pack and they were ALL  lake city nato stamped in that box of 20. What's up with this??????
anybody else seen this??
Does federal own LC or something????

No they don't 'own' Lake City. Lake City is the plant that manufactures for the military and also sells commercially to civilians through Federal. Federal sells a lot of stuff that's actually pretty good. As for being MIXED ammo in a box that's pretty strange.

IIRC its pretty soft brass. Doesn't last but maybe 2 or 3 reloads before necks start to split and primer pockets get loose.

Where else can you find new brass cased 9mm for $8.97 for a box of 50? or your .40 for $12.47 or .45 for $14.97? not many places shotgun ammo is pretty cheap especially .410 yeah .223 and 5.56 might not be cheap but where is it cheap?

Not necessarily.  Fed was loading it in FC brass that was crimped and sealed with either red or blue/green sealant.  That brass was just fine for reloading.

The newest batch of Fed 100 round bulk pack ammo I bought is in yet another Different flavor of brass.  I'm taking a pack out to shoot this weekend so I can reload some and see if the brass is good or not.

It has crimped and sealed primers, but the head stamp is similar to the old weak brass.

No need.  Turns out some guys over in the reloading forum have already had success with the current FC brass.  It's good to go.

I reload with this federal brass.....takes an extra step to reform the primer pocket, but after that it's good to go. I've reloaded about 300rds worth with this brass and have had zero issues.

Man for .40SW you cant beat walmart.  I get the Blazer box for 12.97 which is great brass for reloading and shoots just fine.

One of my hobbies is driving around to Wal-Marts to see for myself what everybody always talks about.  Around Central Florida, our Wally Worlds seem to treat ammo like it has cooties.  I had NEVER seen a Value Pack of anything.......until today.  I went to the Kissimmeee store and as usual, the shelves were practically bare, as all WM's in this area are.  When I asked if they had any .223, the girl said they were wiped out, then said "well, we've got some of these", and whipped out a 50 Rd. Value Pack of Remington 55 gr. FMJ.  It was overpriced ($22.95), but my policy is NEVER leave a store that has .223 or 5.56 ammo without buying at least one box, unless they are outta their minds on the price (same ammo, 20 Rd. box at the local WW for 14 bucks).

I bought two boxes just to get the whole WW experience out of my mind.  I guess I have A.D.D. (Ammunition Deficit Disorder).

because they have THE cheapest prices on handgun brass cased ammo..

their federal .223 now is comparable in price to Prvi delivered.. just a few bucks more at wally if you can find it....

if THE lowest price doens't matter to you then move on and leave it for me....

My last batch of PRVI cost me .41 cents per round shipped to my door. 50 GR. Federal .223 was only .38 cents, and I didn't have to wait...

Not sure if Farm and Fleet is a local thing, but they have the best handgun ammo prices.

As for the F C reloading-   Ive read a few threads in the reloading forum about the "new" brass, and I may just give it a try.  Im going to proceed with caution though.

I don't mind using the Federal .223 (I can only find 100 rd packs here) for range ammo.  I'd buy the 193 too if local shops were close to $.40/rd in price, but not around here.  I have to get my 193 and 855 online, and when you factor shipping the cost is about the same as the Federal from Wally World, it just takes longer to get.

Not all of us have local gunshops with decent prices, so Walmart gets the business.
