| Just went by our wal-mart and they had a pile of .223 Federal value packs in. They had 200 rd Power-Shok 50 gr. JHP's for $77.99, and 100 rd. 55 gr. FMJ's for $38.99. I picked up one of each and was wondering if I should go back and get more. I've never shot the 50 gr. hollow points before, but thought i'd give them a try. Is this good ammunition? The 55 gr. FMJ's i'm pretty sure I need to go pick up a couple more of those..... |
| I shot a little of the $38.99 pack awhile back for barrel burn in. Fairly clean, not greatly accurate (2 inch groups at 100yards in an armalite 16" with a bushnell 3x9 scope). I stock American Eagle black box (Federal mil surplus), just a bit more per box but the accuracy, fps, and multi use as carry/varmint/target ammo is nice. |

I have them both, 100rnd and 200rnd, packs from wal mart. I don't have any issues with either. Some will say its not a good deal, but when it comes to AR's these days, what is a good deal?? I say get some more. At least you will have it and not have to wait for the brown truck to drop it off. |
| It was fine shooting ammo. I don't shoot my AR much any more or when I do I don't shoot from a bench at a target. We shoot from different positions at steel plates we have set up at our mini range at our hunting club. Im trying to save my ammo. But when I do get new ammo I do test it. It was fine shooting at steel 2'x3' targets. |

I've bought a few of the 100rd value packs for range practice. Then I take that brass and use it to reload. It takes an extra step to reform the primer pocket, but once its done.....the brass is good to go for future reloads.
If you're shooting less than 200 yards then I find it works perfectly fine. Never had any misfires or set backs. I've put 500rds of it through my AR and it works perfectly fine. |
