I'll have to check the headstamps and go VFR direct with AM Ballistics. Thanks for the lead. V OUT |

The stuff I've seen came in a brown box similar to what XM193 used to come in. I used to see it all the time, but now that I have a .308 bolt gun I can't find it anywhere.
It's not that great, FGMM and other commercial ammo will consistently out perform it. I think it would be cool to have a few boxes though. |

Ive got 4 boxes of military issue brown cardboard box (not factory 2nds or commercially sold stuff) M118LR ammo in my stash right now. I had five but couldnt resist trying a box through my FN SPR-A1....damn it all if it didnt shoot the best with that crap even over 168gr federal gold medal...too bad my supply is finite. The only reason I even got my hands on this stuff is cuz a good friend of mine just got out of the army and spent 4 years as a sniper overseas.
I'm gonna see if i can beg him to sell me some more. The last time he sold me the ammo for $15/box |
| Prvi 308 green box match ammo has the 175 gr sniper bullet and is the nearest thing to M118 ammo that you can get. In fact, they call it M118 in the PPU Imilitary ammo flyer. I know Prvi has the same bullet, it is 175 grain, FMJBT without cannelure, but I am unsure as to velocity of the Prvi. |

When I bought my Rem 700 and showed it to the rangemaster at my local range, he gave me 3 boxes of it for free to see what my rifle could do.
He happened to have his Rem 700 with him that day so he had the ammo out on the bench. I shot it along with Fed Gold Medal Match 168 and Black Hills 168. The funny thing is, at 100 yards the rifle shoots best with Fed 150 soft points from wally world. |

It's been surfacing in small quantities at gun shows in the DFW area for about the last 2 years, usually over $25 per brown 20rnd box, sometimes less, sometimes more.
Shooting this stuff at 100 yards is like kissing your sister... yeah, you can do it if you have to, but it's just not right! I used it to nail the Bison sillouette at 1100+ yards up the side of a mountain at Whittington Center in NM with my 700PSS. At that range, it was much more consistent that the Gold Metal Match 168 in light wind, even moreso as the wind values increased. The stuff I have in the brown box is pretty nice looking, the cardboard packaging has never been abused as far as I can tell. Didn't look like any factory seconds I've ever seen. I'll need to do more testing at moderate ranges, but I expect it would perform as well as most similar premium loads. This stuff is built to shine waaaaay on out there, and as far as I can tell, it does that well! OK for a first post? I didn't want to rush it, I've been lurking since 2003, lol! |
