I was at a gun/sporting goods store in central Illinois today and watched a guy pay $8 per box for Wolf .223. I never thought I would see the day.

Everytime I've been to a gun store lately, the place was packed.  Three times in the last few weeks, I've had to drive around the block looking for a parking place.   A guy told me that a gun show he went to recently was difficult to get into.

I took advantage of Sports Authority's 15% off sale and bought a bunch of Q3131 (yes, they usually ALWAYS have it.) I thought I did pretty good at $8 a box...

When I went to stash it, I found a box from four years ago marked $4.25

The Sports Authority here no longer carries anything in firearms or ammo.  When it first opened (1993 I think) it was great.  Now its shoes and shirts with logos and golf stuff.

Wierd, Q3131 sells for the same inflated price of 10.99 it sold for before Nov 4 at Bass Pro here, and it is usually in stock.

At the local gun-show AR's were the same price they have always been, an example being a Sabre Defence M4 with regular handguards going for $1,199 at a dealer table.

Yeah, the Sports Authorities here in central TX have also wussed out and have gotten rid of all their ammo and guns.  Pathetic.

there's a TON of people buying ammo and stuff for their new AR's and they are people that know nothing about the AR or about reasonable prices for ammo and accessories for the rifles... therefore, Gun stores etc. are charging more for stuff and these un-informed people are buying it up thinking it's reasonable but not knowing it's not.

i've stood next to sooo many idiots at gun shows lately and watched them get ripped off (even more so considering the price hikes lately) because they believe the BS coming out of the sellers mouth....

Yup, new AR owners looking at that box of 30-06 for 30 bux and those boxes of .223 for 10 and thinking it will be cheep to shoot.
I can't wait till the SAR show in Dec to watch all the people scrambling! I'm going just for that reason.

My observations as well.  This isn't the time to load up, that was two years ago.  But lots of people stampeding into over-priced purchases and cleaning out the vendors/wholesalers.

Local gun shop had Federal Brown box for $13.99 and S&B for $14.99!  For 20 frickin rounds!
both 55 grain plinkers!

I want to support the local shop, but, damn!  So I bought a couple "1911" wrenches for $1.00

That made me feel better.
