I am looking to get a decent stock of ammo for a RRA AR-15 that I just put together. I currently have a few hundred rounds of both of the following:
PMC .223 (ROK) - 55grain FMJ PRVI Partizan 5.56X45 M193 - 55grain FMJ I have searched and read about both of these brands, but I can't decide what to do. I am still fuzzy on what exactly the differences in these loads are. From what I understand, they are exactly the same physically, but the 5.56 is just a little heavier round. My question is this. I can get both of these for the same price and both are available. Which is my best choice? Does it really matter? My local gun store carries and pushes the PMC. He has a 1000round case for $399.00. The PRVI will be ordered online. NOTE: My AR is currently unfired. I haven't had a chance to try either of these in my rifle yet. I am just assuming that neither will be a problem. The ammo purpose will be both for practice as well as defense. Thanks for your help. |

The PMC is top notch stuff. I recently picked some up for $6.49 a box of 20. It is very accurate and shoots better than most ammo I have shot for $10 a box. You must have got different PMC than I did. The PMC I shot gave groups of about 6MOA. Privi OTOH, produced groups of 1.5 MOA. BSW |

I have shot the odd box or two of pmc over the years without doing any real testing so ther isn't much for me to say on that.
I have shot quite a bit of the Privi 55 grain and I wouldn't hesitate to pile it deep.Several different lots that I have tested were quite accurate for ball ammo and allways nice full power ammo. I have been saveing brass but have not reloaded any yet. How has the privi brass been holding up compared to LC? |

Altho Prvi would be my 1st choice, I've shot many hundreds of rounds of PMC "bronze" without issue, and I reload the brass without issue as well. I've never heard anybody say this before. Well, other than the fact that it's a pain in the ass cutting out crimped primer pockets but that's with Prvi and others as well.

It may not matter to you, but PMC brass is not a good choice for reloading. |

I'll second the point about PMC brass not being good for reloading. Their .223 brass routinely has off center flash holes in the primer pocket. Not only does this result in inconsistent powder burn and thus inconsistent accuracy, but it is hell on your reloading equipment. I have personally damaged a depriming pin. It's to the point I won't pick up PMC anymore. It's just not worth the trouble. YMMV.

Thanks a lot guys for all of the great info.
It looks like I am going with PRVI. I was suspecting that answer anyway. I will still use PMC on occasion but I will us PRVI for my bulk. Now for the big question that I am sure hasn't been asked before
Does anyone have any suggestions on where to get about 500 to 1000 rounds. The place that I was going to use has ran out of the cases and are only selling by the single boxes. Thanks again for the help. |
| Widener's is where I'd pick it up. They are backed up right now but I'm in no hurry. |

| Different take here. I would get 100 rounds of several different types of ammo and see which works best in YOUR RIFLE. Every gun is different and sometimes will shoot one brand or weight much better than others. Start with value pack 40gr, winnie white box, the two you mentioned, and Winnie 3131 etc, Use the one that works best. With ammo being in shorrt supply you might have to settle for what you can get. But it is still best to find out what ammo works best. I have a Mini-14 that likes Black Hills Blue box 68gr. OTMBT best but Privi is a close second. Winnie white box 3131 groups 4 times larger than the Privi. Don't know why but thats the way it is. Have fun shooting. |

Thanks for the replies.
I am going to go with what some of you have suggested. I am going to take the ammo already mentioned as well as some that I have just purchased (Federal XM193) and go shooting this next weekend. Only after this can I properly make any educated purchases. My guess is that all of the ammo is going to be good, and I predict that come next Monday, I will just be buying whichever one of the three that I am able to find available. I will update this thread next week after I get some results. Just to recap, I am going to be using the following: PMC .223 (ROK) - 55grain FMJ PRVI Partizan 5.56X45 M193 - 55grain FMJ Federal American Eagle 5.56 XM193 Boat Tails- 55grain FMJ Thanks again |

Ammo is currently hard to find in stock since November 4th. Hmm... wonder why? |
