I recently ordered some PRVI M855 but received PRVI M193. I am working with the company to correct the order but I am considering keeping the ammo to save the hasstle of shipping it back. How is the quality of PRVI M193? Is it as good as Lake City XM193? Also, what's the difference between M193 and XM193? |

Hey! I can actually help on this one! Back to front....M193 is a military spec for the ammo used for most of the first several years of the M16's existence. ONE of the specifications is the bullet size and shape. It's the 55gr, at a certain speed. Powder type, etc. is also specified, as is bullet construction. XM193 is Federal's "brand" name for their M193. The other popular M193 is Winchester Q3131 or Q3131A. One is made in USA, the other Israel. All of these should function theoretically the same, or at least within a nominal range of parameters. Now..one of the other questions: Is Privi the same as M193? That one I'll pass on til someone else wiser chimes in. If it's M193, it's M193, yanno? But just because they say it is, doesn't mean it's not just some .223 they figured would sell better if called M193. As far as which to choose...the 855 was designed for use in the SAW, for penetration. However, it slows below fragmentation threshold sooner. The AR15 Ammo Oracle recommends XM193 for storing if you only have one type of ammo, for this reason. The shorter your barrel, the more you should lean toward M193. If you know you'll only be shooting a 20" battle rifle barrel, M855 might be for you. ETA: Here in the PRI, your shortest barrel will be 16". M855 maintains speed out to a little under a 100 yards. Going to shoot beyond that, it's a 22LR going really fast. If you have a 14.5" barrel with a permanent muzzle break, you're down to a little over half that, per the Oracle. In all barrels, M193 gives you about 50m increased range. It's also more accurate at close distances. The heavier M855 is more accurate down range. Another Edit: Privi got a pretty good rating here |
