What do gun ranges usually do with all the spent shells? They recycle them right. Do they do anything the slugs stuck in the dirt birms? Just curious...

Lead mining is an expensive thing especially with the cost of fuel to run earth moving equipment these days and labor.Need lots of lead to go get plus the permit process from the EPA or other save their jobs government agencies. At our club we have on occasion participated in some light sifting and shoveling to get some lead for casting pistol bullets and that was work for what we got.
Think most clubs will just keep shooting and not disturb the berms unless lead starts costing $200 plus a pound

The ranges definitely keep the spent brass and resell it to recyclers and make some good $ doing that.

Most of the reloadable brass will usually be snatched up by reloaders or the range will collect it and sell it off, if not, they can sell to scrap metal place for about $1.50 a lb.  I've seen some indoor ranges just sweep up the splattered lead and projectiles and store them in drums for recycling as well

Forgot to add yesterday on brass...we save ours and give to the local Cub and Boy Scouts who also come and shoot at our club in organized safe activities and they trade it in and use the money for medals and other things for the groups

Our local indoor facility does the same thing.

If it's good quality, once-fired brass you can get $40--$60 from a reloader, depending on the buyer.  As mentioned by a previous poster, maybe a buck fifty per pound from a recycling outfit.

Shine it up in a tumbler and reload it yourself if good shape, that is the biggest recycle return or if selling tumble and sell it to a shooter who does reload, the brass scrapper at $1.50 plus per pound is a last resort unless it is bent or unusable to a shooter
