Has anyone devised  an idea or gizmo to lock a Ammo Can?

Check the Cheaper Than Dirt catalog or website. I remember seeing some sort of angle bracket to lock ammo cans.

If you're handy, cut a link from a piece of chain so it is a long "U" shape, grind the open ends of the "U" flat, weld it to the can under the latch.

Cut, drill or torch an oblong hole in the latch so the link the latch can pass thru.
You put a padlock thru the link and its locked.

More labor but it's almost free and It will not destroy the air/water tight integrity of the can.

If you have any British cans that the RG shipped in, notice the little tab with the hole in it centered under the large hole in the latch. You could run a small cable thru it and lock it that way, or simply run a cable/chain thru the lower wire handle and the hole in the latch. But that setup could be easily defeated.

The Brits used that hole to run a tamper evident lead seal cable thru.

I used an eye bolt, placed thru the front in a small hole i drilled in the can, and a nut on the inside, then used a vicegrips to crush the threads on the tail end so it couldn't be unscrewed.

Quick, and easy. Perfect for a small size masterlock

I fold the lower wire 90 degrees up against the handle, and then drill a hole through the sheet metal handle so that a medium sized lock can slip through and lock the handle shut.

oldsargesdropzone.com has a lock that fits SAWcans only. I haven't seen any other commercial ones, there's lots of improvised though.

A lock is good for security if kids are about or you live in a Peoples Republic Of state but for the likes of me I would be looking for the key that got misplaced or Alsenheimers would make me forget the combination lock numbers for sure.A Bg could just pick up the ammo box and take a hike with it also.

These are only locks for those who don't have pliers to snip the wire bail holding the can closed. Good for the trunk where really petty thieves (who might break a window on a whim) won't have tools. Any more demanding situation they are unsuitable.
