| Can anyone tell me what type of firearms use a rebated casing? Going through weapons school and want more information on this. |

A firearm that uses the same size rim diameter/dimensions for two or more different cartridges is the most common use for rebated rims. It allow the use of a wider cartridge casing; aka bigger bullet, whilst still using the same diameter rim to match the firearm's chamber, extractor and ejectors. A great example to use would be the .41 AE 'Action Express' that was popular with CZ-75, Browning P-35 High Power, and a couple others pistols chambered in 9mm. The .41AE fizzled out as fast as it appeared, circa 1989-'90. It has virtually the same ballistics as the .40S&W ![]() Here's an image of two .50GI's next to a .45ACP [on the right], and a close-up shot of the rebated rims The .50GI is used in the GI Industries Model No. 1 www.guncrafterindustries.com/model1_50gi.shtml This cartridge uses the same size chamber/rim as the .45ACP and is used in a 1911-style pistol enabling you to use both the .45ACP and .50GI using the same magazines and recoil springs. The .41AE and .50GI are the only commercial rebated rim cartridges i can think of now! In WW2 Germany used the MG-151 chambered in 13mm, 15mm, and 20mm. The three cartridges all shared the same size chamber, case rim diameter, and OAL [overall length] It was up to the pilot or situation that determined what caliber to use. ![]() the 20x72RB, 20x80RB, 20x94 and 20x101RB are all rebated rim cartridges the "RB" suffix indicates 'reduced base' on the 20mm's |
