Anyone have any feedback on the Ruac M193 ammo? How does it compare to Lake City? Is it worth the premium price? ($425/1,000)

Is it worth $425? Not in my opinion. And neither is the LC at those prices.

If I were you, I'd give this ammunition a look (I am looking at it myself):

PMC 55 gr FMJ

I have always loved the PMC 55 gr ammo that's made in Korea but it's pretty much been unavailable for the past couple of years. They had some made in South Africa also (I think) that was considerably less hot than the South Korean load. But the made in ROK ammo is good, clean and reasonably hot ammo. I've never had any of the ROK PMC .223 to clock under about 3,000 fps from a 16" barrel. It's good stuff. It's what I will be buying when I want brass case .223 ammo until Q3131/Q3131A/XM193 becomes more sanely priced. And I don't see where the $125 more per thousand Swiss ammo is signicantly better than this PMC to justify such a dramatic difference in price.

It was $400 per K, and quantities were very limited. Then it went to $425 per K. Now it's $425 per K, and it's a true first quality M193. hink

Well, I don't know about the M193 ammo RUAG made (I didn't even know that they made those!), but I fired many GP-90 ammo, which are the Swiss army issued ammo with the 63 grain bullet, and they where fine. Our army now uses the RUAG ammo made for the Netherlands with a 62 FMJ-Nato bullet since 2006, and that stuff shoot so fine, our Army marksmanteam are using this for the matches shot up to 300 meters, because they didn't saw any advantage in score compaired to match ammo they used before, when the Canadian C77 ammo was issued (which wasn't bad eigther).
So, to be honnest, I don't know anything about the M193 ammo they make, but I don't think Switserland makes bad stuff anyhow. BTW, the Swiss 5,56mm cases are very fine! They all measured the same weight (atleast 95% did)!

No 5.56 ammo is worth that price, Cleatus!

Hi Dutchman2,
Could you give us all any information on the shelf life of this SWISS RUAG ammo?
It has a lead free primer. Will it go bang  100% 10 years from now, 20? .. etc?
I discovered about the limited shelf life of lead free primers from the M195 (5.7x28) ammo from another forum. They said this ammo is only reliable for 10 years, after that who knows?

At 425/K  premium, SWISS RUAG M193 should have a shelf life of at least XM193 or XM855, other wise what good is it unless you will shoot it in 5 years.

I wonder if this stuff is surplused because this ammo must be cycled out every 5 years.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Dude you are asking questions that cannot be answered with any absolute certainty or accuracy. Its surplus!!!!!!! "will it go bang a 100% of the time in 10years".. Unless someone has a crystal ball handy there is no way to tell. U R A

Second that....
Having said that...I think the lead free primer complaint is a myth....from what I read it is a non-issue. This stuff should last a looooong time. Call me in 20 years because I have a bunch of this getting delivered Friday...

If you would be so kind to let us know how this stuff shoots, and pictures, if you are able, I for one would appreciate it.

I would be more than happy to do that and will post as soon as I get to the range. From conversations I have had with others who have used this ammo in the past I understand this is high quality ammo approaching and/or achieving match grade accuracy.

Well... It's now $450 per K! The copper must be turning into gold.

Bought 1k when it was $399 per thousand and it arrived last Friday. Watching the price climb to $450 has me thinking I better burn through my other M193 (SA etc.) before I crack open this case of Swiss gold.

I bought 2000 rounds when it was $399.

Supply and demand, supply is low, demand is high, higher prices result.

My demand for brass cased .223/5.56 ammo stopped when prices got to $275/1,000rds. Steel cased Russian stopped at $150/1,000. I only by when It is a great deal and reload.

I think I will wait until it becomes something like "outstandingly splendiferous" before I try any.

Yep, and the demand probably still will remain strong.

Next update prediction: The ammo will be "the only match grade M193", and will cost $500-$700 per case. The whores will still buy it all. I would rather but a new rifle than a case of ammo at that price.

Must admit...the white hermetically sealed tyvex packaging (5 packages w/ 200 rds each per case) are very Swiss-like...I can't bring myself to tear one open yet. Sad commentary that ....ammo is made to use not stare at!

Hmm...  I might have to try some of that.  Too bad NW loading supply is here in WA--I'll have to pay shipping and 8.8% sales tax
