I had been looking at an online site that had Wolf ammo in stock.  Last week they had between 4-6k 20 rd boxes of both classic and black box.  As of yesterday, it was all gone.  I cannot believe how fast 223 is flying off the shelves everywhere.

Crazy huh?  High demand; short supply...

Sad part is, it'll probably hit $200 per K after June 1st, due to another price hike.

Believe it, my friend. Around here (east central WI) there is very little to be had at any price. Of all the places I have looked (stores and on the internet) the only stuff that is available at any price is the absolute cheapest and the premium hunting stuff.  (Now before someone chimes in with what they have found, and at what price, I haven't been everywhere, called everyone, and there are usually exeptions to everything, and also the occasional lucky finds)

That being said, I have bought several thousand rounds lately, even though I am not too thrilled with the prices. I have been looking for the last year or so, and especially for the last 6 months, to buy a good quantity of the .223, and it just seemed that noone nearby had any, and if it did come in, I missed it. I (and several others I know) have noticed that there seems to be a buying frenzy on the AR style rifles. I suspect it to be related to all the gun ban bills introduced since the 2006 elections, along with Hillary being the presumed Dem candidate. I would guess that many have finally realized what trouble the current members of the Democrat party would put this country and all gun owners into if they controlled both houses of Congress along with the Oval office, and they are getting what they can while they can. (Perhaps even a little bit if the buy it now and make a lot of money selling it after it is banned. Or maybe even a lot of that attitude) I hope it isn't too little, too late, and I wonder how much these people will actually try to help make things better.
I am not going to be restricted to just one platform, however. I also have a lever action 30/30, and am working on getting a M1A. The ammo is more expensive and heavier, but has more punch that a .223 and is more readily available. (Especially the 30/30.)  It also doesn't seem so menacing as one of those evil black rifles. Throw in a few handguns and some .22lr, and that pretty well rounds it off, with the execption of a shotgun. But even though I don't have one, I have access to one if the need ever arises. (Just not much ammo. Does it never end?)
