While in Wally world the other day, I noticed some Remington UMC 55gr. ammo for $6 something a box.  Is this a good deal?  I'm new to buying ammo and want to start stocking up.

Not what I would call a good deal at all, but probably on par with the current market.

While in Wally World check for Federal ValuePacks. All they have here are 50gr HP and seems like they only get one a week but I stop in every week and get my one. Is 200 rds for 52 & some change.

Ain't that the truth. I picked up five boxes yesterday. I guess, I'm going to have to buy a little at a time.

One of the smaller local gun shops here has the 200rd 55gr cases for $49.95...I try to pick up a case every time I'm in there. Its decent ammo with good brass.

Brass is nice on that Rem UMC 55-gr but the .223 load is a bit weak and it shoots a little lower on the target, since my sights are set up for 5.56mm M193 ammo.

Once in a while, Outdoormarksman has it on sale (such as pricing is nowdays) and I scarf up 2 cases at a time minimum.

Save the brass- with prices going up it will be cheaper to reload.   I'm gonna bang out 500 rounds of plinking ammo on my progressive press (Dillon 650) saturday with the saved brass for about $75 bucks or so.  Brass is free, came with ammo purchase, bullets-50 bucks (Sierra bulk) and the rest is powder 'n primers.  As for the press, that paid for itself 10 years ago in other calibers...
