| I read that the latest batch of wolf was supposed to be faster. Has anyone run any 55 grain over a chrono out of a 16 inch barrel? Thanks. |
Cycling and velocity are NOT always directly related. The cycling issue in Wolf M193 is a pressure curve problem. Wolf M193 is actually FASTER that Guat. However, it cannot be compared to Radway, which is SS109, and has a different spec for muzzle velocity. archive.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=16&t=273003 In fact - Wolf M193 is "Hotter" than Guat.... both in muzzle velocity, AND chamber pressure. You can see the chamber pressure signs from badly toqued rims trying to extract, and brass flow into the ejector. It just doesnt have a good burn rate for the AR15. Russian Wolf has cycling isues in some rifles, due to generally being underpowered. This is measured in muzzle velocity. However, I have reloads that slow, that are more reliable.... simply because the gas system likes the pressure curve of the powder I am using. Wolf needs to increase velocity to make people happy..... because some want a closer POI as their M193/M855 stuff. However, most of us dont care how fast it is - we just want it to work in any gun. |
Good read, thanks. |

FALARAK, I see that your AE .223 with LC brass had a good bit more velocity than the FC brass, why do you think that is? Was it just one lot being better than another or do you think the brass really had something to do with it? Have you since re tested both of those but from different lot's than what you already used? thanks! |
If I was a betting man, I'd bet they put more powder in it. Just a fluke, I'm sure.
Nothing to do with brass: www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=1&f=9&t=539360 Federal FC brass is some of the worst - thick sidewalls, thin web. Most brass in .223 is VERY close, with Federal being an exception. It has less capacity than LC brass. Therefore - they simply worked up two different loads.... because given the same powder charge, the FC would have slightly more velocity, due to higher chamber pressures.
