[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Copper vs Steel Jacket ?

I am ready to put a order in for some 30-06 from CMP. Should I worry about the jacket attracting a magnet? I have no limitations on what I shoot at my range I am just wondering about excessive barrel ware from a steel jacket. Need some guidance here. Am I worrying for nothing.

I don't think you have any problems; I bought a case (250 rounds) of .30-06 LC ammo with my '03 (SA M1903, high SN) when I went to Anniston. However, I am not an expert on the matter, I'll just wait until someone with more expertise than me answers.

No, it's listed M1 ball with a steel washed jacket or something like that.

The general consensus here seems to be that it's really no worse (or not much) than a standard gilding metal jacket.
