Good stuff. I have been shooting it off and on for about 12 years now. No duds or case head seperation or any of the really nasty stuff I have read about. Accuracy is ok at about 1 MOA from a RRA Varmint EOP. Out of my bolt action it gets about 0.5-0.75 MOA with the 52 gr HP. |

Got 150 rounds and shot about half through my 1:7 LMT M4. I was able to hit the 14 inch gong at 300 yards with irons pretty consistently shooting supported only by my elbows. probably 7/10 times. Bolt seemed clean as well. I am intrigued by the Dicks mastercard. BTW - has anyone chronoed this stuff? |
| I have shot ultramax for years. .9mm-.45acp-.223-.44mag and several others. Never a problem. Was at range yesterdeay.103 degrees slight breeze, 16" carbine 15rds 2" group at 200yds. Couple of guys wanted to try my rifle. Two new AR converts. Oh by the way leadsled rest. |

I just bought 500 rounds of the 55 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips. They are mean on pigs with head shots. However, to date I have only shot three 20 round mags in early testing, all went bang, no FTF's, and it seemed quite accurate in my Stag upper, with ARES gas piston conversion. |

I don't have any firsthand on the .223 stuff. Anythime I have read about a KABOOM, Ultramax .223 was mentioned if it wasn't personally handloaded ammo. However, I shoot tons of .308 168gr maych through my FN. This stuff shoots awesome in my rifle out to 400. It's not FGMM or BH match, But keeps groups undeer 1" all day at 200yds. I'll continue buying tons of the .308, but will leave the .223 stuff alone. |

I bought a bunch of the SP Ultramax reloads from Cabelas a while back. Took my brand new 16" M4 out the other day...spent casings eject but the next round does not load 95% of the time. No huge deal, but a pain in the butt. I guess they're a little underpowered? Tried various mags, everything pointed to the ammo. I should also say it was quite accurate, after sighing in was getting 1/2" groups at 50 yards with ARMS #40 BUIS. Probably could have better groups with a fancy sight setup. |

I contacted Ultramax and pointed them to the S&W thread, since the owner of the rifle mailed a letter via US mail rather then using the internet or phone to contact them. I would have sent the photos to Ultramax by e-mail. I cannot comment at this time, as the gentleman has never contacted us. Without having both the rifle and ammo, it is hard to figure out what did happen. Lana --- me back to them: Can you guys register as a user on that site and post this? I have used a whole lot of your ammo with no problems. It annoys me that these guys chatter like this without contacting the people that matter. Ultramax back to me: I will try, but I believe this maybe a law enforcement only registration. It is frustrating to a manufacturer, we make around 30,000,000 223 per year, the other millions of rounds are to boring to mention since they didn't fail. The one guy is correct, it happens to all ammunition and firearm manufacturers....users are dealing with explosives...it is how the manufacturer handles the problem that counts. I will take care of the gentleman when he contacts me, if it is an ammo problem, can't tell at this point though. Excessive oil in this area of the gun can cause a failure of this as well. We will be able to tell once we get the two back. Thank you for the email.....it is greatly appreciated. Had an AR double on me. Apparently had a high primer. I suppose it could have happened with any manufacturer, but it just so happened to be Ultramax, and since the ammo is not that much cheaper than some others, I decided not to buy anymore. Was shooting a Ameetec lower with a Model 1 upper, About 1000 rounds before the double, with no issues, then another 1000 after. (All Wolf.) Only had the 1-50rd box of UM, but didn't buy any more. |

Today I shot 77 rounds of UltraMax 55 grain Nosler ballistic tip from my RRA 20" A4 off a bipod and a rolled up army blanket as a rear rest...not very solid. Had no problem with function at all. Looks like this:  A couple groups: Top is 10 shots, bottom group is 11 shots...  Although I shot it from a 20" a fellow arfcommer shot a few with his 16" thru a chrony, they were in the 2800 fps range thru the 16" CAR. |

I just used more reward points to buy another bulk pack at Dick's SG. I have shot too much of this stuff to count now (2000+) without the first problem. All they have at my local store is 55-gr SP (no FMJ), and it only has 130 rounds in the pack instead of 150. Plus, the stuff never goes on sale anymore and sells out often at $45/box. Still free to me, so no biggie, but I wish I had the 55-gr FMJ instead to get more rounds for my reward certificate. I will update this post with range results after I shoot the 55-gr SP (hopefully this weekend, if I don't die of heat stroke first).

I love my ultramax ammo, i've shoot cases through my rra entry tactical with not one issue. zero ftf or fte, not excessively dirty, always cycles completely. At 30 cents/rd and being all newer shiny LC brass it's a no brainer for me! If i read this thread before buying/using UM i would never buy it but im sure glad i have. If you have doubts because of reading this thread which seems very biased, just pick up a box and gp shoot. If you dont like it i'd be suprised but hey you've got yourself some quality brass. |

Had to try it after seeing it at the new Cabelas around here. Before that I had only seen in in the SG catalog. Put 250 rounds 55fmj down range in my Colt 20" surplus M16 upper without a problem. Shot no better or worse than Fed or Win. It comes to just a few cents more a round than Wolf which was my plinking ammo. I'll buy more of the stuff. Edited for spelling. |

I fired 70 rounds out of my MSAR STG-556 yesterday. 55gr soft points. At 50 yards, it grouped 1 5/8" At 100 yards, it grouped 2 1/4" All rounds went bang without a hitch. I'm very happy with this stuff. I have 3000 rounds left and want more. |

Update: approx 300 rounds fired now. I added a Trigger Tamer to the STG-556 and groups dropped to 1.5" at 100 yards with the factory 1.5x optic. With a variable powered scope, I'm sure I could cut that group down. This stuff is accurate. Target shown is 11"x17"

Purchased 1000 rds 55 gr FMJ on February this year from Cabelas. It came with the 4 plastic boxes which I like. $396.01 Total with tax. So .40 cents per round. If you factor in the 4 boxes at retail of $14.99 each, then you can discount the ammo to .34 cents per round. My Boys and I have shot 750 rounds of this so far. No FTF's or FTE's. Functioned flawless so far. Not extremely accurate or as accurate as XM193C that we have also been shooting. Since these are remanufactured ammo, you can expect cases with small dings and dents. I have only thrown away one cartridge because of the size and type of dent that was in the case. The brass is marked L C on the head so you can save your brass for reloading. I plan to reload all of mine. The bras is still in great shape. I will purchase more if the price is right. I haven't seen any cheaper than the price Cabelas has. Typical group size at 100 yds from our 16" bbls is around 4" My Boys and I can still hit the 300 meter 24" (average mans torso is 19" wide) diamond steel plate at our range all day long with this ammo. Only about 3/4 hits on the 12" at 300 meters. Here is a target that is somewhat typical of the groups you can expect.

I get about 1-3 MOA (at 100-200 yards) with the 55-grain FMJ out of my 20" 1/9" DPMS upper with 24x scope. I am sure I can get better than that, but I just now got my two-stage trigger installed and haven't had a chance to practice with it much. I have now shot thousands more of the 55-grain FMJ .223 through 14.5", 16", and 20" barrels with not one issue to report and decent accuracy. I get at least 150 rounds each month and shoot them almost as fast as I get them (shoot older ammo first, then reload mags with the new ammo). The only problem is that the local stores (checked three within 45 mins of here) are always out of stock, and I have to call each day and have them hold one for me when it finally comes in. It has gone up to $60/150 rounds, though (ammo inflation sucks). |

Shot out of a Bushy M4 14.5"
I have shot a good bit of the 50rd boxes 55gr, probably over 1,000 rds I have never had a single mis feed or fire, every round went bang, I have never measured its grouping as most shooting I do is close so as long as it's minute of man I'm happy |
| I saw these at my local shop and purchased 1000 rounds since they were going for $12 per 50. I looked at it and some had little dents and dings but hey, I've had reloads that looks the same too. Anyways, I took it out to the range, put it into my SU-16 and shot it. It was the best group out of all the other ammo I had (Wolf, UMC, Federal, White Box Winchester) I went back to the shop and bought the entire stock (they only had 11 boxes left) I recently built an AR DMPS, and it shoots sub MOA @ 100 yards all day, and just yesterday I was shooting at a 12" gong at 300 yards, I shoot 121 rounds and every single round hit the gong so I'd say UltraMax is a good ammo. :) |

It sucks - absolutely terrible.
Please stop buying it all up before I can get it. For the past two months, I couldn't even FIND any anywhere, and my rewards coupons nearly expired before I gave up and bought WOlf black box instead. What turds Wolf turns out - short strokes all fricking day, making my rifles work like single shots. Shoot, pull the charging handle, and shoot again. No more Wolf for me. I'm going to buy every Ultramax .223 round I can get my hands on from now on, certificates or not. |

Personally, I think this is fantastic ammo for the price.
Fired approx. 500 rounds through an RRA 16" carbine w/ free-float barrel, 1.5-5x Leupold scope, and Springfield trigger job. Cloverleaf groups at 50 yards are common...1-1.5" five-shot groups at 100 yards are not a problem at all. Never any issues with function. I do notice I have a few more split or mangled necks on the fired cases than with new ammunition, but that's a pretty trivial issue. I'm shooting the 55-grain soft point, by the way. Wish I could find more in stock somewhere. |
Picked up 750 rounds at $69 per 150 rounds at Dicks Sporting Goods today. I read at the beginning of the thread that someone purchased the same at $30 per 150  in 2007. Man, hope those numbers come back soon!! Glad to hear the quality is still good on these, I have shot 1000's of rounds of this in the early 90's and was good then.

Just picked up 250 rounds of 55gr SP at Cabela's TODAY that has been backordered since December 6, 2008!!! One week short of 5 months on backorder! 
I ordered them because of the price, and haven't had a chance to shoot any yet. But I'm glad to see they're generally pretty well-regarded. . . EDIT TO ADD TARGET Just returned from the indoor range (weather sucks this week), and I couldn't be happier with the Ultramax. Not only did it shoot to the same POI as my Black Hills, it surprised me with its accuracy and consistency. No FTF or FTE or any other kind of problem. Here is my last target, with 30 rounds into one inch center-to-center. Granted, it's only at 25 yards, but that's as far as i could shoot indoors. 
Can't complain about that!

Ultramax 308 165gr in my SA M1A. After shooting milsurp and handloads I switch to this box of Ultramax ..few shots and boom...well, rifle was fine may have been a fluke...bang bang BOOM... done with UM. Shot 2 more mags of milsurp without hiccup.
When I got home I confirmed that the firing pin did not drop while out of battery by using a primed case charging and holding the bolt back whil pulling the trigger, no bang until I recocked and let bolt go into full battery, Took the remaining shells apart and measured powder 42- 42.9 gr of ball powder, box says its accurate powder in which case they were over charged.

Im contacting UM as a FYI Only damage was my mag blowing out, lost the floor plate and spring. |

I shoot the 55gr SP at the local indoor range here (no FMJ rifle rounds allowed) and Ultramax has been pretty good to me overall. I get an OCCASIONAL short-stroke out of it, but it's rare.
I'd buy more of it, but lately it's been about $35 for a box of 50 at the gun shops around here!!!!!!!!

| Edit to above post wit 308 UM ammo. Looks like older ammo and processes have ben changed to correct this problem. UM is sendi ng me a new box of ammo in return for the old casings and box. Even though I told them that I appreciate their offer and tried to decline, they insisted. (not because I dont want "their" ammo, but I didnt find neccessary to pay s+h to trade a box of old shells that I would have gladly just sent them anyway). Seems like very good customer service and I apologize for acting like a butt head about their ammo. |

I have had good luck finding their .308 bulk packs (80 rounds, or 60? I forget) in boat-tail hollow points, and my Howa 1500 Varmint rifle loves them. I get the best groups with the Ultramax .308 BTHP of any ammo I have tried. |
