Do any of the dealers here on the board offer subsonic 223 ammo?  I've looked, but havent found any yet.

I just thought I'd try to keep my money in the ARFCOM circle before I look elsewhere...

Also, has anyone tried HSM's subsonic stuff?

No such thing as .223 subsonic ammo.

The speed of sound is approximately 1100 fps.

SAR did a write up JUNE 2006

The ammo 5.56mm pass threw 8 pine boards @ 100 yards ( 63gr average 1042FPS)

BTW subsonic generally refers as being less than 1050FPS

THERE is alot of BULLSHIT here thats is passed around

You my friend are wrong.  There are several differnt makers of sub 223 ammo that will frang inside of 100 meters.  Just wondering if any of our sponsers carried an of it...

I know you probably don't belive me, so feel free to google it...let me know what you find...

FMJ -I agree wit h ouy on the bullshit piece!  I saw the write up that they did on it, but damn that stuff is expensive!  If it works though, you know I'm gonna have to buy some!!!

FMJ,

http://www.ebr-inc.net/Ammo.asp

Their "5.56 / .223 Frangible Reduced Hazard Urban" load makes no mention of being subsonic.  All it says is that muzzle energy and velocity depend on various factors ... you sure this is subsonic?

This ammo is under the "Frangible and Specialty Ammo" section, not the subsonic.

Am I missing something?

I'm not doubting you or that this is subsonic, I just want to be sure I order the right stuff.

I know of no frangible subsonic.  Be interested in hearing about it and what its for if it exists.

Subsonic Loads: As an aside – we do not recommend commercial subsonic rounds in .223 because of the recurrent problem of bullets becoming lodged in the rifle’s bore.

Fine...go for it.

You're right...there is a lot of BS passed around...

I'm assuming based on this post that you are not familiar with nor have used much of what you are talking about.  It's easy to do a google search and copy and paste what ever you find...

Back to my original question...any dealers sell sub 223 ammo on this board? (not does it exist, or what is the speed of sound, or should I use subsonic 223 ammo)

For a cheaper .22 caliber subsonic option that still has the bullet weight of a .223 you might try the Aguila SubSonic Sniper .22lr round, it shoots a 60 grain bullet at 950fps.

I've heard bad things with this ammo and suppresors. Many cases of baffle strikes. That is unless you use a barrel with a higher twist. a 60 gr. projectile out of a standard .22 LR barrel isn't the most stable in the world.

+1

Why would anybody spend $$$ on subsonic .223 ammo that pushes a ~60 grain projectile at ~1000 fps, when they can get the same performance from a .22LR?

I think subsonic ammo only makes sense with large calibers and heavy bullets - .45, 9mm, and other pistol rounds, .45-70 type buffalo rifles, etc.

It also makes marginal sense in "gallery" or "cat sneeze loads" for .30 cal and 7-8mm rifles. guns.connect.fi/gow/arcane1.html

I would rather have sub 223 than a 22lr
the groups @ 100yards were outstanding?

Why buy sub if ya aint got a CAN
