I was at the range tonight and was shooting some of my favorite ammo. This is from what I deem a very reputable company that does sell remanufactured ammo. I fired off a round and my rifle jammed and when I looked at it the case had split in half. I have never had this happen before. How concerned should I be about this? Should I let the manufaturer know?

Thanks,

Steve

If it's just one case I wouldn't worry about it too much, you can have a case split on new ammo.  If you see a pattern of this happening, stop using it and let them know!  A reputable company will replace the ammo.

Is it black hills? I hold them in high regard as well, but I have heard of them having cases split from time to time.

How much of the stuff have you shot of theirs?

It was Black Hills. I love the stuff but after this happened I looked at the cases closer. For whatever reason I always assumed the blue box was once fired brass. Much of the brass looks much more used than that. The headstamp is very worn on some of the cartridges.  Does anyone have any idea if the Black Hills is once fired brass or can it be brass that has been reloaded numerous times?

My wife called and talked to someone at Black Hills.  She said they were very good to deal with. They got the lot number and are sending some ammo for our troubles.

I have shot 3/4" 5 shot groups with black hills out of my RRA Standard A4  20" which I think is pretty dang good. So like I said I love this stuff. I just have never had anything like this happen so I was a little concerned.
