Just got a Sportsmans Guide HQ catalog in the mail. They have 500 rnds of Federal XM80 147gr .308 ammo for $110, catalog # DX5M-88673. The picture shows a large brown (box?) that has 'For Training Use Only' printed on it.

Is this ammo loose packed? Is it accurate (MOA) enough to shoot from a precision bolt gun? Anyone out there have any experience with it?

I would make sure it has a copper jacket and not just a copper coating before pumping it through a precision barrel.

I thought all ammo coming out out of the Federal Lake City plant would have copper jacketed bullets. That may not be the case huh? I wouldn't trust any answer I would get from the people at Sportsmans Guide either.

TM 43-0001-27 describes M80 ammo.
CARTRIDGE, 7.62MM, BAL., M80 uses a Projectile: Weight of 146 gr.
The projectile is 150gr   +/- a few gr that is full metal jacket with a lead core!

This is just the same and XM193! Except in the M80 version!

My thoughts are if you can afford a precision rifle then feed it properly.

M118 Special Ball 173gr FMJ
M118 LR 175 SMK
M852  168 SMK
BHA Match 168 or 175 SMK
FGM 168 or 175 SMK.

Or tuned hand loads!
