| Does anyone know what the bullet drop of .44Mag ammo is at 100 yards? What is the max effective range of this caliber? |

You need to provide the weight of the projectile, the BC (ballistic coefficient), and the muzzle velocity (which is going to vary based on barrel length). Also, the height of the sights over the bore. With that info, you can figure it out all you like here: www.handloads.com/calc/ or here: www.norma.cc/htm_files/javapagee.htm -Troy |
Drop is based on a sight plane i.e. sight it in for 100 yards and there is no drop; at 150 there is a drop so you have to be more specific. Second, there are so many bullet profiles and loads again need more info. but maybe a broad answer is good enough. I used a .44 win. lever for years deer hunting and it is best at 100 and under with irons. I might take it to 150 if a had to but that's it because it has a large arc and loses velocity quickly. If you choose it you must know how to range well enough for proper hold. Great for close work. |

Are you talking rifle or pistol? I zero my rifle at 100 yards. It is 6" low at 150. With a pistol, if you zero at 25 yards you should still only be 2-6" low at 100 (depending on your load). As far as the "maximum effective range," Elmer Keith allegedly killed a mule deer at 600 yards with a 44 Mag revolver. 44 is a great cartridge. Especially if you like recoil. ![]() |
