It has been quite a while since my last post (looong story!) I have the following ammunition "stash" : 1K Winchester Q3131 in unopened cardboard container 1K PMC 5.56 (camoflaged boxes) 1K Malaysian in orginal boxes My question is this: All of this ammunition was purchaed in the mid 1990's. Do I need to "rotate" this ammunition and replentish my "emergency stash"? Thanks for any comments. |

First, you don't have enough. Shoot the old stuff first, replenish as needed. Simple. Keep all of it in ammo cans with good seals and you shouldn't have a problem with long term storage. And if you haven't purchased ammo since the mid nineties, you are in for some severe sticker shock! |

Thanks for the replies everyone. Operror- I know what you mean about sticker shock! I have indeed bought 5.56 or.223 lately. Even found some Federal xm193 (lot 20) for $90/500....guy only had one carton left. Should I take this new ammo and "clip" it and store in ammo can or leave it in original cardboard carton. Thanks |

I store all of my XM193 on stripper clips in 50 Cal. Ammo cans with one of these 40 gram silica gel units. Hope that helps. |

Please read the Ammo Oracle, which has a section regarding ammo storage and lifespan. -Troy |
You should shoot more! That way you won;t ever have to worry about ammo becoming old. |
