Just bought an M16A1, and got some ammo in the deal. Not really up on this stuff, seeing this is my first M16. Also just got my first AR-15, which I probably will shoot this ammo in. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Head stamp-FNM-83-16. And Headstamp WCC-89, WCC-92. I'm thinking on the Wcc stuff, the numbers are the year manufactored. Thanks in Advance |

Sorry, but I shoot Black Hills blue box and custom reloaded 77grn. SMKs/OTMs, Winchester PP & PP+ reloads and use Winchester Q3131A as my plinkin/SHTF ammunition. The Winchester ammo ya got there is probably okay, but there has been problems noted w/ selected years of their production, whether this applies to what ya got I don't know...... BTT for those who are more familar w/ the specific ammo listed. Mike added: fwiw, I trust no-ones' opinion where ammunition is concerned. All ammunition, even the reloads I create are suceptible to the occassional problems. Setback can occur at anytime and it is up to the shooter to be responsible for whether the quality of his fodder is up to snuff. Cap off a round or two, checking each ejected round and don't be afraid to eject any round "without" firing it IF anything doesn't feel right when you jack the round into the chamber (I have avoided "set-back" time and again by following this simple rule, when in doubt, eject it and take a look) All semi-auto rifles can be affected by sub-standard ammunition, the responsibility for SAFETY resides with you. Check what comes out of your rifle, look for pressure signs or any cartridge defect, as even the best ammo makers get "bit" occassionally by machines which get outta-spec. Weak neck tension resulting in set-back can turn your $1200 rifle into a pile of junk instantly. Overzealous shooters can get excited and miss a "squib" load (that can occur with any ammo) and again damage not only their rifle but themselves or bystanders (I have seen this happen at HP competitions, the fella just was worried about dropping more points and forgot/didn't take the time to check his bore, boom! messed up rifle) None of us are immuned....... Shit, these things are dangerous, ya say........... damn skippy, I wouldn't own one that wasn't!!!! SAFETY begin and ends with you, be safe. |
