whats out there for good and reasonable non-corosive 8mm ?

About the only non corrosive 8mm Mauser out there that is somewhat affordable is the Sellier & Bellot 196 gr. FMJ.

Excellent stuff, and has the 196gr. bullet that German Gew. 98's and Kar 98K's and Yugo Mausers are calibrated for.

Yugoslav, Romanian, and just about anything else surplus will be corrosive.

[cough]trash[cough] Any American made ammo will ne non-corrosive and junk. Extremely weak and underloaded. Igman is the same way.

The only Full power non-corosive you will find is Norma, Lapua, Hansen, some rare Hirtenberger, and S&B.

As much as I hate to even mention it, I have seen some Olympic 8mm for pretty cheap.  I figure it's worth it just to have decent reloadable brass, *assuming* the brass is okay, which may be a bad assumption.

What he said and why I fire the old corrosive ammo.  Don't care for replicas and want to feel and see what the gun was designed to do.

The only economical non corrosive around is S&B, Ingram and anemic US commercial loads and your lookin $8-12 a box . You can reload your own but that will only cut it to $ 5-6 a box.

With the cost of surplus corrosive 8mm being around 8-10 cents or so a round in bulk ( Turkish ) it's worth the hassle of cleaning up after shooting.

Aimsurplus just listed Yugo Surplus 8mm 196 gr ( Ss ) brass case for $1.5 per 15 round box = 10 cents per round. Aim Surplus

What in the hell is wrong with corosive ammo? If it's being fired through a bolt action rifle, clean up should be a snap. I have  shot hundreds of rounds through my 8MM Yugo, and the bore still looks like new.   Spend a few extra min. cleaning your bore and bolt, and enjoy all the inexpensive surplus 8MM ammo that is currently available.

I had a few boxes of the Olympic to try it out when I first got my 98, and it was terrible. Lots of misfires, hard primers or something in my Yugo.  I used to call it my "shit ammo" and started shooting surplus corrosive ammo because I'd rather thoroughly clean my barrel after shooting than wonder if the cartridge is actualy going to go "boom".

I use Norma ammo for hunting, expensive but very good ammo.  I bought 500 rds of the Yugo stuff and it works great.  There is one place that I did not see mentioned in the earlier posts that has new manufactured ammo, it is not as expensive as the Norma stuff, and it is not wussified like the Fed, Win or Rem ammo.  Take a look here:  http://www.mitchellsales.com/ammunition/index.htm

Corrosive ammo is not a problem. Just take a bottle of WINDEX with ammonia with you to the range. When you are done shooting, run some patches soaked in WINDEX down the bore. The ammonia will neutralize the corrosive salts. When you get home from the range, clean as normal.......

No, the amonia will break down the copper fouling.  The water the amonia is in will disolve the salts.  Hell, I just use water.  Worked for every army in the world, it works for me.

the Portchugeese (fuck if i can spell it right-that how it sounds dammit) is non corrosive.

i've been shooting the romanian in my mausers.  windex, hot water, followed by the usual cleaning routine.  it's too cheap not to shoot.

Here is a link for cleaning after firing corrosive ammo. It explains it pretty thoroughly.......

This the same Yugoslav stuff people are talking about?

SG is asking about $67/900 rounds, plus shipping.  Supposed to start shipping around the end of the month.

Yes, great ammo. Hard primers, but that is not big deal.  I have a few cases and they were made by Hansen.
