| I'm looking at buying some bulk ammo via one of the many mail order companies on the web. My question is do they require a signature on delivery or will they just leave it at my apartment front door if I'm not home? I'd prefer not to have the apartment manager sign for it, they don't need to know my supply of ammo. There's no way to have it delivered to my place of work. |

Some do and some don't. I never recall The Sportsmans Guide requiring any signatures. Of course I haven't ordered anything from them in while due to the fact that half the items I have ordered from them are always on back order. Call ahead to make sure your item in currently in stock before ordering. Otherwise, I have found them ok to deal with. -CH |

I can honestly say I am the expert on this topic because I face many of the same problems that you do. SG does not require a special signature. But as you know, all UPS packages require a signature. I have found that aparment staff usually do not see the actual packages that are delivered. The UPS drivers delivers all of them to the storage room and the rental staff just signs. But they do happen to run across your package if you don't pickup on the first day and they have to move or rearrange them for the night. Or if they are helping other tenants, "wow, this is heavy, 30 pounds, dave, ORM-D small arms cartridges?" BTW, I've asked SG to use the ORM-D Consumer Commodity label instead for privacy and theft reasons. My suggestion is you get to know your UPS driver. I have a private front door and I talked to my driver and he'll leave my packages at my front door for me. Of course, it's probably a good idea to help him out for doing you this favour. If you can't go this route (theft, unwilling, etc), you can always call the UPS facility when your package arrives and ask them to hold onto the package until you arrive with ID to pickup. This is tricky, time wise, but if you don't mind an extra day or two, you can probably make it work. |

Ok, my experience. I've done several ammo orders through Ammoman. Ammoman requires a signature for the package. But guess what, UPS doesnt give a damn. Out of all the orders i've done, UPS just leaves it on the door. Actually, one time, my little sister was home, 13, and she was able to receive the package no problem. |

most of my mail order ammo has been through SG and cheaperthandirt it usually (but occasionally doesn't) has one of those ORM D stickers and sometimes when I'm not home ups leaves it other times they leave a sticker on the door for me to sign and leave for the next day the other day I got an order from SG and since I was getting out of the shower when the ups guy knocked on the door I yelled that I'd be there in a minute and he just left it without me signing the little computer clipboard just checked the two boxes from the other day "ORM-D Cartridges small arms" stickers but no signature required stickers |

For me, it is preferable to have the package held at a local UPS facility, waiting for me to pick it up with proper identification and my adult signature. Often UPS tries to deliver it when I'm not available. I make a telephone call to UPS with my tracking number and arrange to have the package held. Ideally, I could specify a delivery date/time appointment, but it isn't offered as part of the service. ~Craig |

Usually the shipper will not ship to any address other than the billing address of the credit card. In any case, I wouldn't want my neighbors to know about all the ammo I am stockpiling either. Cabelas 2000 rd deal is a 50 lb box of ammo and a 20 lb box of ammo cans. I asked UPS to hold it at the customer counter facility until I stopped by to pickup with ID. Like Craig said, they gladly complied but this we even before a first attempted delivery. |
