would subsonic ammo have less range and more bullet drop than a reg load 223?
I know the velocities are in the 900-1200 fps as opposed to 2600-3200 fps.
I take it I would have to resight my scope for that?
and if so wouldnt terminal ballistics be lesser ie fragmentation damage etc
I wanted to try some out for my own experiment sake but am not sure if it will be a waste of time or not

Just get a .22 rimfire upper  or conversion kit, that way you get simmilar or better ballistics and it will cycle the action.

Just my .02 cents.

In a word, yes.

Subsonic ammo is 1050fps or below (sea level). You will not achieve fragmentation at this velocity, except with certain frangible ammo. It will drop further for the same distance (gravitational acceleration is constant + takes longer to get to target (slower) = more bullet drop).

However, I have no experience in this field. Just logic talking...
