I ordered a kit from model 1 yesterday. The kit is chambered in .223 with the SS barrel. I went to the local gun store and asked for .223 ammo and he sold me federal xm193. After getting home i see that the ammo i purchased is 5.56x54. I read the ammo faq and it states that it MAY be unsafe. Has anyone had any experience with this combination? Any comments/suggestions welcome.

Pressures could easily exceed SAAMI specs due to the brass may fit tightly in your chamber.

More important to me is the likelyhood that only some of the brass will be sized to be tight in your (assumed tight .223) chamber.  If this is the "case", pressures will vary and accuracy will be degraded.  Extraction can be difficult for overpressure loads.

My Armalite came with a .223 chamber. No problems with XM193 or any other 5.56 put through it.

556 ammo "drops" in my LE Wilson cartridge gauge.  Only real difference is 556 is slight hotter than 223, and 556 has a slight longer throat.

It will be fine.

I've fired more 5.56 type ammo out of my frankengun colt-bushy-Olympic match barreled carbine than anything else. It also has a SS .223 chambered barrel and I have had no sign of overpressure, hard extraction or the like. You'll be fine.
