| I've come across a box of 9mm Aguila IQ ammo... What's the skinny on it? Any good? I've run a search and have not come up with much. |

The IQ ammo is another example of a lightweight-for-the-caliber-bullet-goes-very-fast load. Like virtually all such loads, the temporary cavity they make looks impressive, being larger than typical for the caliber, but proper testing shows that the permanent cavity is both small and too shallow (i.e., doesn't meet the 12" minimum penetration requirement). We know that most tissue in the body is very elastic, and the stretching caused by the temporary cavity does little damage. Some organs are non-elastic (brain, liver, kidneys), and certainly are affected by temporary cavities, but these tissues represent only a small portion of the body, so temporary cavity isn't seen my most researchers as being anywhere near as important as the permanent cavity, which will come into play with EVERY shot. Bottom line: this would be a poor choice for a defensive round. -Troy |

My opinion: One of the eternal 'urban myths'... If there was some magical ammunition out there, everone would be using it. Stick with the tried and true JHP -- or better yet get yourself a 1911 if you want a good defensive weapon - ok just had to get that in there ;) |

Okay the IQ stuff is a market ploy to seperate you from your cash... What about the 9mm 124gr FMJ blasting ammo?... ProLoad has deal right now on a case of the stuff, you get a discount on Winchester Ranger ammo. I'm curious if anyone has shot any of the regular loads. I'm guessing it'd be dirty... like UMC |

I blew the target and the cord that transports it all to pieces going for a headshot. Everyone at the range came over to see wtf I was shooting! Has anyone ever seen a mushroom cloud come outta their 1911? |
