Have heard good things about the Federal AE223 white box ammo.....but can't find it anywhere?  Can anyone tell me who has it in stock at a fair price?  Phone numbers or websites much appreciated.  Thanks for the help.

The Federal American Eagle is great ammo and is widely available.....but it doesn't come in a white box. It's packaged in red boxes with an eagle on one side. You can get this stuff from just about any place that sells ammo, but I will leave you a couple of websites that has it:

www.sportsmansguide.com

www.natchezss.com

You might also look around at Wal-Mart as well. They may have some of this on hand, as they stock a wide variety of .223 FMJ loads.

Some older AE was in white boxes with a large eagle on the front.

Most of this ammo I remember being foreign made ammo that Federal was trying to bring to the American market. I don't think the endevor lasted too long. The last I saw was Norma ammo.  What is the head stamp?  If it has not been repackaged, it is most likey old (early 80's) and European made. I have never seen it in .223 though, but that does not meen it wasn't made.

I agree with the previous posts that the Federal American Eagle, I have used the red box stuff, is good ammo.

However, the drawback for the reloader is that the brass is very soft with a thin web area.

Generally considered unsafe to reload unless you go through extrodinary measures to verify primer pocket fit.
