I picked up a Spikes .22 Middy barrel from member hochimin to build a dedicated .22, and decided to go in a way to fit in with my Retro addiction. It started out with an Oly cast blem C7 upper I had sitting around and I built it as a Middy carbine. I really wanted something different, so when a member here put up an A1 upper rewelded into a 605 for sale, I knew what I wanted. I picked up some triangle handguards and a D series butt stock off the EE. He also had an Oly cast A2 front sight base that I needed to deban an Oly A2 HBAR barrel. When the parts arrived, first thing I did was pull the FSB from the Oly barrel and install the replacement. My A2 upper was now complete, which will be another post in the A2 section.
The next step was to remove the FSB from the Spikes barrel. Once that was off, I tapped the pin holes on the de-lugged Oly FSB to 8-32. I picked up 4 setscrews at the local Ace Hardware, which has the largest selection of obscure hardware known in the area. With the screws installed in the base, I then took the handguards and front triangle retainer and installed them on the barrel. I dropped the FSB on, compressed the spring by pushing down on the FSB to the point it was flush with the base of the muzzle threads, and tightened 2 setscrews enough to hold it in place. I checked sight alignment then tightened all the screws. Next, I installed the 3 prong FSB, and I was done! The sweet thing is with the .22 chamber extending deeper than the standard barrel into the upper, it looks like I have a 15" barrel like the 605 had.
Spikes used a Ceiner BCG when it produced dedicated .22s. I found them on Ebay being sold by Ceiner, so I got one. The collar fit the barrel perfectly, as it was made for these. Here's a link for those looking for one...

I haven't taken it out for a trial run yet, I'm waiting for a dry free weekend. It's sitting on a Bushy lower right now, but I'm going with a properly marked 80% later on. Here's some pics......
