Hey friends, I am building an AR-9 using QC10 glock lower and New Frontier Armory Upper, with 5.5in barrel. I need some help suggestions on a hand guard rail system. Will any hand guard work (556/223 etc) or does it have to be 9mm specific. I am looking for a low profile, shorty look. Any help would be appreciated!!!

with a 5.5" barrel you will only have about 4.5" of barrel to cover. a "pistol" rail is about 4", a carbine is about 7", mid is about 9" and rifle is about 12" and you can get longer. i kinda like the look of the 7"ish rails with a flash can barely poking out. still makes for a "short package". a 4" rail would work but you would have the entire muzzle device hanging out (would be good for suppressor use).

5" barrel with a 3-lug adapter on the end, 5.5" Odin Works keymod handguard. Without the 3-lug, the threaded end of the barrel is completely inside the handguard.

fwiw, ymmv, etc

take a look at SLR rifleworks. Great rails and a ton of short length options specifically for 9mm AR builds (but can of course be used with any AR upper/caliber)
