I plan to build a 9mm SBR.

I wanted to put in a better trigger, thinking a Geissele 2 Stage (G2S).  Then I realized that you need a different hammer for a 9mm so it won't work (?).  Same would apply to something like an ALG.

Found some old posts about changing springs etc, etc but are there any upgraded 9mm triggers commercially available?

You can use a regular AR trigger in combination with a ramped 9mm bolt.

I'm using a Timney 3lb FCG (667S) in my QC10 Colt form AR.  My AR is more for short range SD, and plinking steel at no more than 50 yards, so a single stage trigger makes sense for me.   I really love that trigger.  Smooth, crisp break and a very nice short reset.

If a timney works, I Don't see why a geissele wouldn't.  Then again, I tried it with my DD trigger and the gun became single shot (it didn't like the notch they put into the top of the hammer).

I have an extra G2S I'm not using and want to put it in my 9mm AR but didn't wanna risk it.

You don't "need a different hammer" for a 9mm AR.  With a ramped bolt, you can use a standard, rounded hammer (NOT a notched hammer!).  That means that a lot of aftermarket triggers should work fine for you.  I have an ALG ACT in my SBR, which I use with my 9mm uppers, and it works great.  Smooth and "light" feeling, the ACT provides plenty of positives.  I would avoid going with an extra light trigger though, since a lot of people say they feel that 9mm ARs recoil harshly.  (It's not more recoil, it's the way the gun works...)

A G2S should work fine, but that's about as light as I would go.  I really don't see an application for a two-stage trigger in the way I use my 9mm ARs, but to each his own.

I've been running a CMC flat 3.5 pound trigger in my lower for a long time now. Zero problems as of yet.

Same here. Used a stock trigger out of PSA LPK and a CMC flat 3.5.

I have a G2S in my DDLES Colt style 9mm lower and it works fine. Have about 500 rds through it with no issues. The gun shoots like a lazer now. I went from a milspec trigger to an ALG ACT and now the G2S. The ACT was good, but I can't see myself going back. As long as the bolt is ramped it should work. Most 9mm bolts are ramped now. If your bolt is unramped then none of these triggers will work and you'll need a dedicated 9mm hammer. To my knowledge I believe Colt and RRA are the only ones still making an unramped 9mm bolt.

RRA's bolts are now ramped from what I understand...

Cool!!  Thanks!

I'm looking into the CMMG 8.5" upper.  Anyone know if they use ramped bolts?  I'll send them an e-mail to see.

ETA: CMMG confirmed they do have ramped bolts

I'm running the SSA in an early Rock River with an unramped bolt and it works just fine.

Edit: I'm running the SSA, not the G2S, but the hammer profile is the same.

Not true, my non ramped bolt works with a multitude of triggers, as long as they don't have a notch at the top of the hammer.  Currently running a CMC in mine. I've never ran a dedicate 9mm hammer in mine.

Here is an archived thread on trigger compatibility:
https://www.ar15.com/archive/topic.html?b=3&f=15&t=643892

I had changed out a bolt that was giving me feeding problems for a JP bolt.  That fixed the feeding problems but then my Timney trigger wasn't resetting.  I switched to a JP trigger and so far it has been 100%.

I just built a carbine using the CMMG 9mm lower with the CMMG ramped bolt. I use the Timney skeletonized 3 lb trigger and it works perfect.

The "9mm hammer" is poo on a stick in my opinion.  It doesn't do well in any application.  On the other hand, a non-ramped bolt may put a lot of extra stress on your hammer pin.  That may not be a problem with your CMC trigger, but with non-modular FCGs, it can be a big deal.  Broken hammer pins are a pretty common issue with blowback ARs, especially 9mms.
