I'm thinking about one of these, but I do not see them mentioned much.  What's the story on these?

Anybody have one?  Decent rifle?

From what I can tell Colt makes them mostly in the Spring.

The only problems with them is Colt ships them with the barrel not tightened down properly; you'll need to do that yourself.  This has happened to multiple people here.

I have a 6951; I like it just fine for what it is, a 9mm plinking carbine.  It's accurate enough, and with a 16" barrel I can hit steel targets at 100 yds with ease.  With a short 9mm barrel (on my M16) I cannot hit steel targets at 100 yds.

It works fine as is from the factory.  As soon as you start changing anything on it you'll get in trouble.  For example, the Colt trigger/hammer could be replaced with a Geissele trigger/hammer, but you'll need to ramp the bolt so the lower doesn't get beat up due to the different geometry of the hammer and bolt.

The best mags to get are either Colt, Brownells, or Metalform; they are identical to Colt and work perfectly.  Other brands like ASC usually work in the Colt but may not work in other brand guns/lowers.

Watch for the loose barrel and you will be good to go. Great rifle. I removed the rubber gas deflector to clean up the look. Runs great and it's tons of fun ringing steel.
