SO.. all you 9mm owners. WHY are you choosing to run a buffer that cost $60 - 150+ (JP, etc)

I've done 3 - 9mm uppers over time. All of them ran with a stock carbine buffer & spring. This last one, DDLES lower GM 10.5 bbl , cmmg BCG. I used a H2 buffer and stock carbine spring, just because it was in my parts bins.  Like the others no issues feeding, bolt over etc. I run this unit stock and suppressed , no problems.

Just curious are that many of you having issues running stock?  I kept this build as low budget as possible, see no reason (from my perspective) why people are doing $$ upgrades, before they've actually fired the gun.

Because I can, is what it boils down to.

Some things I splurge on others i skimp on. I'm a penny pincher when it comes to optics. While most like buying Eotech, Aimpoint, Trijicon, etc, I'm buying low budget Primary Arms.

I have two 9mm AR's 16" rifle and 7 1/2" pistol  Dedicated  colt style lowers Black Creek and DDLES
Both have  CMMG ramped bolts,  RRA 9mm buffers $25 each, standard carbine spring's, one has Spikes spacer $15 and the other seven quarters $1.75
Both run Flawless

I always run suppressed and I hate gas in face so I'm trying different buffers to mitigate gas blowback.  Also, I already broke a bolt catch using a carbine H2 buffer.  I've tried the Slash 9QT which worked really well, and I wanted to try the JP 9mm Silent Spring....which IMHO is the best of all the buffers I've tried.

The bolt catch was the first thing to go, for me.  If i was 2 or 3 gun running, it would be functional.

The Slash 9QT keeps the bolt closed long enough so that most of the powder and crap goes downrange and not out the ejection port.

I didn't go expensive like the Slash buffers or JP...... Spikes ST-9X was $49.95 from AIMSurplus and my rifle is perfect.

Get the proper weight Voltor A5 type buffer and you'll prevent over travel of the bolt when using a standard carbine buffer tube.

Prevention of over travel saves the bolt catch.

10.5" . first one was an Oly that used stock sten mags.Ran it with an H2 buffer have 2 - 16" and now the 10.5 GM with a cmmg bolt, i clearanced for the glock feed lips.

Good to know,  I might try a 10.5 then.

The 4.5 I built didn't run for shinola with a standard buffer.
runs like a singer sewing machine with a JP spring  though.

I have used the A2 and H3 buffers.

I am a lefty, and never got a gas eye when using my cans.

And as for a comparison...
I always felt my full auto M16 9 m.m. was WAY more jumpy then my STEn MK II

I have run my 9s with carbine buffers and not had any problems.  But...that was with factory 115gr Winchester White Box fodder - not terribly hefty rounds.  Using a heavier buffer reduces the back and forth battering the gun (and your shoulder) takes.  A standard, heavy buffer doesn't always work because of the reciprocating mass in the standard buffer.  That reciprocating mass seems to mess with the timing of the whole system, which is why most 9mm buffers are not just heavier but pretty much solid.

If I could only use one buffer for my 9mm ARs (one with a 16" barrel and one with a 10.5" barrel), I'd go with the "9mm buffer," like Spike's or RRA's.  RRA's 9mm buffer is about twice the weight of a standard carbine buffer...

Never thought about it too much but I think there's some truth to this, always got a little blowback with my RRA 5.4 oz carbine buffer from the charge handle so I made my own budget gas buster with a bead of silicone, later I upgraded to the Spike's ST-9X (8.5 oz) and swapped charge handles with another build. Now I'm only getting a fraction of the blowback with the heavier buffer & unmodified charge handle.
