| What is the difference between the older and newer CMMG Stainless conversion kits? I know the older kits had a smooth stainless chamber adaptor and the latest kits have a brass chamber adaptor. Is that the only difference? I'm going to convert it anyways to a dedicated conversion with a TACCOM collar and I'm also going to install a TACCOM reliability kit. By the way I have the older model that's brand new. I've had it for a few years and finally getting ready to build a dedicated upper. |

Some of the original stainless conversion bolts did not have the live round extraction, which is a slightly different cut in the chamber insert and different extractor IIRC.
This wouldn't keep me from buying an older SS kit if the price was right. I have 2 of the parkerized CMMG kits and a Ciener kit and the first SS bolt is smoother than those. |
| The back plate on the "older" kits did not have a cut out that is used with the Forward Assist adapter. Also, the newer bolts have a key you pull out (just as on an AR bolt) so you can easily remove the firing pin. On the older bolts you must tap out a pin to get the firing pin out. Also, you may notice a little difference in the welding of the back plate. |

The last two differences I can think of that are not yet mentioned:
Contours of the bottom of the bolt are slightly different to work with the CMMG bolt hold-open actuator; Bottom 1/3 or so of the bottom back plate is cut away (different than the forward assist activator notch), I presume to not batter the buffer retaining pin in slightly loose or out-of-spec upper/lower combinations. |
