This is my 1st post and my 1st experience with a Colt 9mm. I’m sorry if I’m at the wrong place on this forum. I walked into my local gun shop. The owner handed me a rifle and said I just bought this 9mm at action. I looked it over good and told him it said 5.56 on the lower. He said, Is that not right? I told him, I thought it would say 9mm If It was a factory 9mm. I took pictures of the gun and started researching it a little, I very quickly learned that the factory Colt 9mm’s online had roll pins holding the block in the mag well. This Colt lower did not, it has a block in it with what appears to be an allen bolt going up from the bottom. At this point I was convinced that it was a 5.56 just made into a 9mm probably as cheaply as possible, but as I started checking out the upper some more the letters on the side of the carry handle and the A-3 above the ejection port matched up to markings I found on Colt uppers oline. I also found the barrel was marked C MP 9mm nato. The gun has a Colt factory mag and the collapsing stock looks the same as the pictures I’ve found online. The serial # starts with LE instead of the TA like the ones online are. It’s a very low 5 digit serial #. I compared the hammer with a picture of several types of hammers and it has a 9mm hammer in it with a stock 9mm bolt. So my question is, did Colt ever send a model like this out from the factory or has this gun been built by an individual? It has me confused since it appears to be all Colt. All the pins and other places on the rifle appear to be un molested and not wrenched on. I like the looks of this gun, but If it’s not the real deal. I hate spend the same money that I could buy a 9450 or 6951 for.  Thanks for the help in advance.

That is not a factory Colt 9mm....   Maybe Colt parts or complete upper, but not factory built.

That said, if you can get it for a good price and it runs, I would do it.

Any chance of photos?

I would expect a factory Colt 9mm carbine lower would have pinned in mag well blocks.

Mine is an older Lightweight Sported and it is marked 9mm NATO. I can't speak to the newer Colts.

Colt made conversion mag blocks with set screws like that.

I like that Colt scope on the upper even if it's a knockoff. I've never seen handguards like the ones on the upper -- almost look like they have removable sections in them. I hope somebody comes along that knows what they are.

IMO that's a colt 9mm upper on a 5.56 lower

A customer In the gun shop mentioned the scope also. I told him it was a new reproduction and that I’ve seen them for sale online for fairly cheap. I not sure when or where I seen it, but I just remember thinking that the super bright white Colt painted on top of the scope made them look new. The front hand guard has been changed and it has rails with covers over them. Those are the only two things I can find that I’m sure has been added to the firearm. I hope someone can help me 100% identify this AR also. It’s one of those deals that makes your stomach feel funny. It’s at the gun shop and I'd hate to see it sale before I’m completely sure about it. I guess that’s called anticipation. Lol

All the evidence I’ve found makes me believe the same thing  AaronL15. I just wasn’t familiar enough with the 9mm to be sure. It seemed strange to me that the upper was Colt, But you never know what people are thinking or what has been done to a firearm in the past. I assume one way to find out for sure would be to pay for a Colt letter. If I thought this gun was rare I’d pick it up in a heartbeat, but If it’s just a mess of parts I’m not really interested. Only because If I ever decided to sell it, things might be difficult as they are now .

Thank you. Do you have any idea want the value of this type of set-up would be? I assume it's worth less than a original factory stock 9mm.

Looks like I'm the owner of a Colt 5.56 Lower converted to 9mm with a Colt upper. I finally talked the dealer down to where I felt comfortable. Thanks to everyone that helped me identify this rifle.   http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/af275/birdsmc/Colt9mm013_zpsa130c9cd.jpg

Thanks dead-bird, I took it out and shot it. I like the way you can hear the gun cycle. Pretty unique firearm to me. I like it.
