I plan on doing a SBR build with my RRA LAR-9. I want to cut about 6 inches off the barrel, but there are pin holes where my front sight base was mounted. I'd like to have my flash suppressor snug up against where the barrel tapers, but I'm not sure if its possible given the location of the pin holes. I'm not sure if the hole would interfere with the threading. I'd like to know if this would be doable somehow. Maybe some smithies here have had experience with this before. BTW this is my first post on AR15.com so I'll include some extra pictures and build specs. ~Thx

My honest opinion? Get another barrel......chopping a pistol caliber barrel you can run into issues with the centerline of the bore not being concentric to the OD....especially when you cut more than an inch or so......plus while you can thread the pin hole area....it can cause issues doen the road with galling if you try to emove the muzzle device.

+1

If you are going to spend the money and effort....just go with a new barrel. If you don't want to keep the old one I am sure you will have no trouble selling it to help pay for the new one. Do it once, do it right, and move on.

Thanks for the replies. I was afraid someone would say that. Does AR15.com have some sort of avenue for selling/trading parts? I'm not sure how to safely go about that online.

Also would this barrel fit the RRA Lar-9 assembly? This is the best price i can find.

Just have ADCO cut and thread your barrel.

Barrels are standardized, its why we love this platform, easy to change these things.  You can contact ADCO and see what they say about machining yours. Look at all your options and then decide.
