I have what I think are a few basic questions. What is the difference between the DDLES standard lower and the DDLES Vltor lower? Does the Vltor lower have to use a Vltor upper or can it use a standard upper? And, does the standard lower have to use a standard upper or can it use a Vltor upper. I'm new at this, so any help or opinions you could give would be great as I'm trying to make a build plan for my first build.

You can swap them accordingly without issue.  It is all about line cuts and lines where the two parts mate together.  A VLTOR cut lower will match the VLTOR upper in a better looking "line".

Here is a matching cut - notice the ease of lines:

Compare that to a non-cut standard lower:

Notice how the lines are fine, but don't flow as "pretty".

That is all.

I bought a VLTOR lower, on which I plan on mounting a standard upper.  Hopefully it doesn't look retarded.

Can I ask where you found a VLTOR lower?

Daddy, while the other replies are 100% correct about compatibility I think
if at all possible you should test the fit prior to purchase. I know this is not
possible for internet purchases or if you special ordered through a dealer.
However, as wonderful as VLTOR is, sometimes the tolerances between
receivers can run from very tight to very loose, especially when you mix mfgs..

So whenever you CAN test, it is a good idea to do so.

Good luck with your project.

Thanks for the replys. I'll be ordering the lower tonight. Then, hurry up and wait. I'm not in any hurry anyway.
Thanks again
