Hi,
I'm looking to build a dedicated 22 upper using a cmmg BCG and would like to use a barrel other than CMMG, possibly Lothar Walter. I would also like it in 12.5" wiith a heavy profile. I haven't found this type of barrel on any retail sites CMMG and Spikes only go down to 16" so it means I will be looking at a custom barrel. I spoke to Lothar Walter in US and Europe and they said they can make anything I want but can't help me with the design and couldn't confirm or deny whether they can make a barrel extension to specifically fit the CMMG collar. They basically said I need to tell them excatly what I want by way of blueprint and they will make it. I've emailed Clint Beyer but he says he doesn't export I don't have any blueprints nor draught skills but aware the CMMG collar and is different to Spikes/LW and has ID of .460 Does anyone lnow where I can get a blueprint for a custom 22 barrel with exact dimensions that would work with CMMG BCG or could possible offer any alternatives? I was set on building something I wanted but if all else fails I'll just go with a CMMG barrel and bolt kit. Thanks, A |

Finding the correct dimensions might be hard. Tolerances are going to the the hardest part of making a correct print. I know you e-mailed Clint Beyer and he said he wouldn't export but did you ask him about possibly purchasing a build print and have him send it to Lothar for you. It might be hard to convice him to let that info go but it would be worth asking.
Also maybe try Taccom or CMMG directly and see if they can help you out at all. |

Maybe "Redtzadog" could help you out....he's made some barrels for some folks here and other forums: http://www.ar15.com/member/member.html?id=30659 |

Alborg, try Spike's Tactical, they do LW in .22lr. You'll have to buy their collar, but it is a snap to
swap out the CMMG and replace with the Spike's. http://www.spikestactical.com/new/z/barrels-22lr-barrels-c-210_191.html Ted |

I hadn't thought of that. I'll send him an email and ask. |

you could get 16" heavy then have it cut down when you get it or i have the cmmg barrel stub print on my home pc i could email you if you would send me your email . Tramey, i'm thinking the twist would be slightly out if I had a barrel cut down but a print of the cmmg stub might be just what I need thanks!. Have sent you a PM. |

But then I came across a thread on here with pics that showed the BCG didn't sit flush with the back end of the upper by a couple of mm, so I guess the length of the two collars must be slightly different and some complained of a loose-ish fit and light strikes. I was looking at it the other night but can't for the life of me find it now... A |

A Most of the play or compliance occurs on the rails to collar front to back fit when a Spike's collar is used with a CMMG BCG. If left unchecked, this play can rob the FP of inertia resulting in ignition failures. Fortunately this condition is easily rendered moot through the use of TACCOM's Pressure Plug and your buffer/spring. See:http://taccom3g.com/22INSERT_PRESSURE_PLUG.html I have considerable experience with LW/Spike's Tactical .22lr barrels and CMMG's BCG/Spike's Collar and found the combination to be superior to the typical garden variety AR22 barrel. My only issue or criticism of the Spike's barrel is that it is of M-4 profile, for many this is a "tacticool" factor, for me it is unnecessary. Nevertheless, it has no negative effect on the barrel's accuracy or overall quality. Ted |
